Q: In terms of keeping you cool, how does this cotton hat compare to the nylon ltm6 tilley hat? even if you don't use the hyperkewl insert that is.

The cotton hat is definitely superior in terms of keeping cool.

Q: Does this hat shrink? my two other airflo hats ltm6 and ltm2 have both shrunk one size.

After washing, same as hiking boots and packs, you should dry it with a small or medium fan on low for up to several hours as needed, not in the hot sun and not using heat. If they don't get lots of moving air while drying, they can get musty. Most of the time when washing a hat, all I do is just rinse well in running water in a sink or hose in the backyard and skip washing machines and chemical soaps and then I dry it to the damp level with a clean towel then use a fan to get it bone dry. Salty sweat dissolves well in just plain moving water. If it shrinks a little, try wearing it while damp so it dries stretched a little and it will go back to the original shape. Cotton seems to shrink when wet and heated, but then seems to stretch over time from wearing it a lot. Cotton t-shirts that are tight also seem to stretch to less tight from lots of wear, but as they stretch in diameter, they shrink in length. I have noticed a tight cotton hat would expend slightly over time where it is tight, probably shrinking slightly in height, and becomes more comfortable as it ages.

Q: does the brim blow up in the wind? i have a colombia similar style that is very floppy and doesnt keep sun out of eyes in slight breeze

It will certainly not blow up in a slight breeze. The brim tilts down in front, and although the material is soft, I would not call it floppy.
