Q: Rubbish instructions, no idea how to wire it up or how to give it power to work! Can someone help?

Terminals have to be connected directly to the mains supply. The wiring diagram supplied is quite adequate for someone with a reasonable knowledge of household electrical wiring to do this. I have put my unit in a plastic box to keep the wiring safe. For safety reasons my guess is this product is not suitable for you. Return it get your money back and buy a simpler unit for energy measurement that plugs into the mains and has a proper output socket for the appliance. It will be much safer.

Q: is there a surface mounting box availale for this meter?

I couldn't find one so had to use a suitable size ABS box and cut a hole according to dimensions in the installation instructions. The module pops in very easily and it's clips hold it in place. I bought two modules, put them in the same ABS box. One to measure whole house power the other for my Man Cave. Very useful to see where we were wasting energy. Better than our Smart Meter and allows an independent check.

Q: Can the unit be connected to a computer to record hourly readings

Yes you COULD connect this to a computer..............but it would be far better, and far cheaper to get a standard mains Mains Power meter with a standard 13Amp plug. The cheapest Amazon sells for £14.99 for a pair!

Q: Do the instructions show which is the negative and positive connections?

No they didnt, but the black is the neg and is clear where it goes.
