Valkyrie Elysium - PlayStation 5

This game was surprisingly good if you temper your expectations. I loved the first and second Valkyrie Profile so when this was announced I was cautiously optimistic. I’m glad I bought this game. Where this game truly shines is the combat and voice acting. The combat system is tight, well thought out, and loads of fun. I usually get annoyed when having to fight so many enemies in a game, but with a genuinely good combat system that takes away the frustration. This game did that. From spells to weapons to einherjar summon, this game did it right. Easily one of the best combat systems in the majority of games out there. I was looking forward to actually fighting loads of enemies. The fun combat made up for the rather linear dungeon maps. The voice acting is also really good. It didn’t sound fake or forced, all the voices sounded fitting and natural. As with the combat system, the voice acting here is WAY better than many big name games out there. I hope the VAs are able to partake in more games in the future. The story was ok, but rather weak compared to previous VP games. You can pretty much see where the story is going from the beginning, so don’t expect something grand here. There are multiple endings, I’ve only gotten the “true” ending so far, and it was ok…again kinda expected. I did like the einherjar characters and their little quests. I also did like Valkyrie and Hilde. I do wish there was more time to dedicate to their stories like previous games but..this goes back to weak story. The world itself was very linear. The dungeons are long but you will have to try to get lost. The graphics don’t have the vibrancy of most current games but they’re still very well done and you can see that a lot of care did go into the character motions (Valkyrie’s fighting movements are fantastic with each weapon - far better than most modern day games), design, and overall environment given the budget. Asgard itself is really beautiful. My only small gripe is I wish they didn’t make Valkyrie naruto run… If you’re on the fence about it I say give this game a chance. If you want a game with a rich, in depth story, this isn’t it, but you will have fun just playing the game if you like some good combat and general fun.

If you loved Valkyrie profile back in the day, you will appreciate Elysium. This game is not the same style as the old VP games, but it has a couple new things, including a more fast paced - square enix type hack n slash. The game delivers everything as a linear rpg and the combat and mechanics of the game are really one of the best Ive seen lately. The combat is really really enjoyable, and you can really appreciate it once you understand how to use certain moves properly and timely. The graphics aren't something extraordinary, but they're decent for its budget. The plot is straight classic norse mythology and the alike (if you played the previous title you know. Or even if you played GOW ragnarok). Game is a great rpg, with a smooth battle system, and sweet customization skill tree. This is a nice comeback of the Valkyrie franchise, and I hope theres more coming in the horizon! Grateful for this.

I heard virtually nothing about this game when it came out, but a favorite YouTuber’s recommendation led me to pick it up, and it did not disappoint. The world and soundtrack are beautiful, the combat is unique, fast-paced and rewardingly challenging, and the story is decently compelling. Definitely worth a play through for any fan of action-RPGs
