The box does not open. It is open in the back, but is not an actual hinged box. Please search Amazon for "Primitives by Kathy hinged boxes" if you'd like a gift box that opens. Thank you for your interest in our products!

Horizontal is a tick less then 4 inches. Vertical is a tick over 5 inches. And the depth is over 1 inch.
