You can sure rely on this guide alone to travel all around inclduing the Papua side. Make sure you heed the advice on environmental issues and thread lightly on the planet and on this amazing, yet seriously endangered as far as biodiversity goes, country.

I got the book as a gift for my friend who is going to travel to Indonesia. Although I am an Indonesian, I don't think I have such an extensive knowledge about my own country. So, I think getting the book for my friend was a great idea.

in general i hate LP digital, but i have to admit that this book was quite useful. it was an unexpected trip to Sumatra, with no plan, this book helped me a lot and everything went smooth. but i have to add, nowadays with all digital, even without a book one can manage somehow, plus thorn tree. the best ever!

Lonely Planet did it again...covers SO MANY places in details...I'm planning to go to Indonesia for 4 months...this will be indispensable for my trip. It also covers the culture aspect of the country.

This version of a popular bestseller does not permit easy browsing in ePub versions. Cross-filing references cannot be traced. Accommodation and lodging citations for many cities are both limited and out of date.The historical background is presented in a disjointed fashion. The many forms and expressions of Indonesian culture are glossed over--- if discussed at all.This volume requires editorial control

I am specifically commenting on the Kindle edition. In one word: unusable. The Kindle might work for books that one reads from start to finish, but it does not work with a very large book that one browses through and where one jumps from one part (where one currently is) to a vastly different part of the book (where one plans to go next). First of all, it lacks a table of contents, so you have no clue what is actually where in the book. I had to look into a printed copy to get an idea of the rough outline of the book. There is no usable index either and even when using one of the hyperlinks they only take to a Kindle page in the approximate region. If you try to search for, let's say 'Bali' it will take you to all mentions of Bali in the book, which are hundreds. You can then skip through every single one of them to get to where you want to get. Then you have lost the page you came from and start searching for that. The maps are, while blown up 4 times (and thus spread over four Kindle pages), are still too small to read and with legend separated on another page really cannot be read. Some of the smaller maps have not been enlarged and are totally useless. The printed LP benefit from a very careful layout which gives you an idea where you are. In the Kindle edition, you never have a clue where the next bit of important information could be found. Lonely Planets on Kindle need a lot of work to be of any use. I would not buy one again. Actually it was so bad, I would like to get my money back.

As always, Lonely Planet delivers first rate! VERY comprehensive guide book to allow you to plan and implement your entire trip to Indonesia.

non ci sono immagini, è un pò troppo dispersiva,sembra dire tanto, ma in realtà dice troppo poco. consiglio di comprare la guida sempre lonely planet delle isole dell'Indonesia che avete intenzione di visitare anche se comporta l'acquisto di più di una guida.

Guide décevant, particulièrement pour les régions moins touristiques de l'Indonésie, y compris Java. Nous avons eu beaucoup de (mauvaises) surprises concernant les adresses (beaucoup ont disparu, passe encore, je comprends que les adresses se renouvellent très rapidement) et la description des lieux: définir Bogor comme une ville jolie, agréable et paisible laisse à penser que l'auteur n'y est jamais allé, où alors il y a 30 ans peut être! Il serait peut être bon de diviser cet énorme guide en plusieurs parties pour mieux couvrir les régions, qui sont tellement différentes et méritent qu'on s'y attarde. Par ailleurs, il serait bon de préciser que certaines régions (Java Est en particulier!) ne sont peut être pas recommandées pour les jeunes femmes voyageant seules, ou en tout cas que les transports en commun ne sont pas une partie de plaisir(ce qui n'est pas le cas sur Bali ou Lombok). Préférer le Routard Lombok-Bali, qui comporte également des adresses pour les villes touristiques de Java. Reste Jakarta, qui est très mal représentée dans le Lonely, et pas du tout dans le Routard.

Indonesia is TO MUCH INDONESIA :), you will need a guide. This is the perfect guide to start your planning but it is to big to carry in a backpack. My advice take this one for planning, but take a smaller one with extra notes, tips, and maps to carry.
