Rhode Island Novelty Black Felt Top Hat

This hat exceeded my expectations! Wow! I purchased it earlier than I actually needed it, because I figured the price was too good to be true. I thought this was going to be one of those "you get what you pay for" things, since it was so cheap. Thought if it was cheaply made, or looked horrible, u would still have time to find something else for my son's Halloween costume. But this hat was perfect! Perfect size, and very sturdy. I was worried when this was delivered, because it was in a box that looked too small and was "domed" up, I thought for sure it would be crushed when we opened it. It was not, despite being packaged in a too-small box! My son is only 10, and this hat fits him perfectly, but he has a slightly bigger head than an average 10 year old. Wouldn't fit a larger sized adult head, unless you want it to just sit on top of the head. After Halloween is over, (when we have more time) he plans on keeping it and make it more "Steampunk" looking. He wore it all night at a Halloween event, and not once did it fall off, or become uncomfortable to wear. This is a great hat at a great price!

My daughter wanted a top hat. I'm old. I don't know WHY she wanted a top hat. Why would a kid want a top hat? She's not into steam punk {yeah, I'm old, but I can read}. When she pressed me to get her one for her birthday I found this one. I had dealt with Rhode Island Novelty before and thought I had some idea of what I would be getting for such a low price. Novelty items are not generally meant to last so when this arrived I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of it. It's made of a thick, stiff felt that holds its shape and is put together pretty well. It is much nicer and much more like a real dress top hat than the novelty/party hats I found in the stores. Those were usually soft or made of plastic. The inside measurement is about 22 inches around and the base tapers slightly to the top (not a stovepipe hat). It is a little loose on her head but her hair helped it fit well enough to use. She wears it while teaching herself to play the ukelele. One day if you're rocking to the tunes of a top hat-wearing ukelele megastar, you'll at least know where she got the hat.

These hats look great! Obviously they are costume quality and won't be appropriate for a night at the Opera, but they look even nicer and are sturdier than I was expecting when I ordered five of them last month. Pretty good size, too. Didn't fit my head, but my dome is massive and I expected that. The other guys fit great.One thing to note! The single pack and double pack are actually two DIFFERENT types of hats. The singles are a few inches shorter than the doubles. It ended up working out in my case, having one short hat and four tall ones, but if you are buying multiples then be aware!

It was great for fun attire . It was a little small on him. Our friend said to my husband that attire for him was top hat for Xmas dinner. So he wore the hat and it went over with lots of laughs.

Thought it would be too big as to stated measurements, but as one poster stated, it is shaped oddly. Well, it worked out for me as it fits with just a little excess room on the sides. I can put my fingers underneath the hat, just over my ears. My head is 21 1/2 inches. It is amazing as to the quality of the hat. Looks much more pricey than felt. I wanted it to put steam punk glasses on a hat. I have a lot of hats, but, you really need this type for the glasses. Looks GREAT!! Only negative thing I can think of, is, I wish it would have been a little taller.

This hat is adorable! Great quality for the price. I ordered this based on the reviews and I am not disappointed. My son is playing the part of John in a production of Peter Pan and needed a top hat to wear with his pjs. This particular hat received great response here on Amazon and I have found I can usually trust Amazon reviewers. In this case they were spot on, as usual! Definitely nicer costume quality for a low, low price. Sturdy--doesn't seem like it will lose its shape unless it is stepped on or crushed or something! Very pleased. Update: The hat performed beautifully and looked great.

As far as the hat goes it is not oval enough for a human head. So no matter who you are you will need to work this sturdy hat a bit to get a good fit. Even though it was Prime they did not ship it for a couple days so it took 5 days to deliver and I missed warring it to the party I had it planned for. However, I will keep it anyway as it would cost as much as the hat to ship it back and it has some fun potential in the future. If you are involved in FIRST FRC the theme this year is 'SteamPunk' and with this hat and some glasses you will fit right in.

A basic black top-hat. The felt makes it look like a "real" hat. But unlike natural fabric hats, the inside doesn't mold to your head, so it's a bit uncomfortable despite being light-weight.The sizing is definitely not "most adults". I'd call it a M/L for men's hats. I was looking for a cheap "Steampunk" costume hat, and liked this one's fabric-like look, but the small size means it's going back.A bowler style is likely a better Steampunk choice, anyway. But I ended up using a New Year's style satin top-hat.Young adults, women, and smaller men should do fine with this hat, but men with larger heads should keep looking.
