I have a non-optimal / non-recommended gate... Wood panel (7.5 ft width per leaf), with a wheel on one leaf to limit sag (I've already replaced the post; long frustrating story there). Ghost Controls, like most manufacturers, wisely advises against both of these things and I'm aware that I'm probably voiding my warranty, but ultimately I still needed a solution, so I chose to take the risk. Turns out it actually works really well! With a full panel gate, the concern is that wind will catch it. I try to avoid using it when windy, but it does work. I'm more concerned with wind pushing on it while closed, so I installed the Zombie Lock to limit movement and keep things secure. Seems to work great! As for the wheel on the gate leaf, that's temporary and I expect to eliminate it very soon, but I still got it to work as it is because of a few things in my favor: 1) there's not actually much weight on the wheel (only correcting a small amount of gate sag), 2) it has a spring so there's some give, and 3) it's a larger diameter wheel so it rolls over bumps and cracks more easily. If I was missing any one of these things, I would not expect it to work. I do have the gate's force setting on maximum until I'm able to ditch the wheel. As for the opener itself, it was very easy and straight-forward to install, everything appears to be high quality, and the keypads and remotes work well. As noted on Ghost Controls' website, HomeLink compatibility is hit or miss, but I got it to work with my 2014 Corvette, although no luck with a Porsche of the same year. My gate is a push-to-open, so I bought the appropriate brackets for that, but found that I didn't need/want that on the side where I was attaching to a fence instead of a post (see picture). I braced it up really well on the back side of the fence, then used a 2x4 and the standard brackets, and was able to achieve better fitment and angles/leverage than I did with the push-to-open brackets. That's a unusual case, though... When you're able to attach to a post, the push-to-open brackets are the perfect solution.

So this is one of those pleasant surprise products. I had been looking at gate openers for a while and finally decided on Ghost Controls. If you're going to purchase do yourself a favor and watch the install videos they have on their youtube channel it will give you an idea of what you're up against. I watched the video and thought looks easy enough but it is never as simple as the video. I watched a few other videos of people doing the install on Youtube and planned on the install taking the better part of a full day. I had a small issue with delivery and reached out to customer service and they were fantastic and very responsive and got the issue taken care of so Kudos to them and gave me some peace of mind that if any problems arose during install I would be able to get an answer pretty quick and easy. Got the package from UPS, opened it up and everything is nice and neat and organized. Laid everything out to make sure I had everything I needed and in less than 2 hours I was up and running with my gate opener. I came back in the house and told my wife this was one of those times I was expecting to be tinkering with a project all day but was done WAY sooner than expected. While I can't speak for longevity and reliability yet so far I am tickled pink and if for some reason I start having issues or it doesn't last I'll be back to update my review but so far initial impressions are 5 stars!! UPDATE JULY 2025! Gate opener still going strong, Zero complaints would purchase again in a heartbeat If I had a need for another gate opener!

Bought 11-2024. Installed 6-2025. Install was easy and straightforward, much more so than another mighty brand I installed for a friend. The control box is nicely designed and can be opened with no tools, yet is weathertight. Tip: I wired a magnetic switch inside the control box so I can operate the gate using a magnet. This is helpful if I’m in the yard without any other means to open the gate. Use a normally open switch and wire it between common and cycle on the terminal block labeled “hardwired”.

An excellent product. Great company with quality products and excellent customer service! Being an electrician/Skilled tradesperson, I come across a lot of different motors and control set ups. This is by far the best I’ve seen! Very easy installation; Easy-to-follow instructions and very good quality motor and hardware set. I’ve heard of people installing cheap openers and having terrible results. This product has been great from the beginning and still runs great.! I have neighbors stop by asking me if I will install one for them. I give them the name of Ghost Controls and tell them to order this kit and I will install it. I will definitely buy Ghost Controls products again.

I purchased the Ghost system to replace my old gate opener. It was easy to install and works great. Eight months later, started having a problem with the gate closing, open partially and beeping an error. Contact Ghost support who walked me through some troubleshooting steps, decided it was the control board and sent me out a brand new one. After install, still had the same problem, contact support again, did a few more troubleshooting steps and determine it was the arm. They sent me out a brand new arm, took 10 minutes to install and works perfect! Their responsiveness was very impressive under normal times, considering the pandemic, lock downs and unusually things going it was outstanding! The Ghost support team was extremely courteous, knowledgeable, professional and took the necessary steps to resolve the issue. Thing do break sometimes, but having a support team that quickly resolves the issue is very important.
