Q: What's the difference between this and api's regular all-white micro filtration pads? does this work better?

This filters from coarse to fine as a progressive filter. As long as it is placed the correct way up. Yes it does work better than the all white filter.

Q: How many microns are the pads?

I just contacted the manufacturer; they do not measure their product in microns. This did not work for my needs, so I rigged up a 5 micron filtration device, and it did not work either.

Q: Can I use the pads on my fluval 406??

I cut them to fit, but yes, that is exactly what I do for my Fluval, any model really either my 306 or 406. I really like these pads.

Q: Do the pads need to be replaced for a certain amount of time?

I replace my pads every time I clean the filter and tank. I usually do it every 4 to 6 weeks
