Been buying chess computers since 1980 with my first Fidelity board. This particular model is the best I've owned by a longshot. Having choked out $700 for the beast, it ought to be. I prefer computers to human opponents as the only ego I have to deal with is my own. Manufactured in Germany where they know a thing or two about quality, it's the only board I've experienced using unique RFID chips in each piece with a sensor under each square. Place a single piece anywhere on the board and the 'puter instantly recognizes it. No pressure switches, which is a good idea since the entire playing surface is wood. Only issue was a pawn that went bad about 6 months later. Contacted the company which immediately sent an entire set of chessmen (the sets are matched). Finally, it's got stand-alone programming, no app required. If you prefer a functional work of art, you could do a lot worse than this baby.

Haven't had much time to play the last couple decades - but that's changed now. I was so excited to find this beautiful electronic chess board. Stumbled across the Millennium brand recently and it seemed to have the best all-around options and support. Actually I like what Chess House offers with support and all but decided to get it here. Also, I had seen a review or two that mentioned pieces not working - my research shows that was only on some of early shipments a while ago. I'm told I don't need to be concerned about that any more. As for first impressions...... real nice inside the package - gift box. This wasn't a special occassion for me but it sure would make a perfect gift. The board fits super nice on my table cuz it's not that large. Pieces are obviously real wood and fit well with the board, look good on it too. Wow, it's been a while since I've played with wood pieces. There are two cables. One of them plugs between the board and the wood chess engine compartment. That looks nice next to it and has a fairly good size screen that's real visible. The other cable — ac adapter actually plugs into that same module. Starts up instantly. Actually one of the first things I noticed is how fast and responsive it all is. I turned down the brightness of those board lights in the menu. There are a lot more settings when the expert menu is turned on instead of the "comfort" menu for more common things. Speaking of what's in the box - there's extra queens. Yes! Love that. Also a few extra adapters that would be helpful obviously for other parts of the globe. I'm playing games and seeing which levels I can beat. Boy I feel like a kid again. This is fun. I played a lot in high school. Also sometimes at my work through the years but it's been too long. Size: perfect for me - the reach is very manageable. Lights on the board sure helps. It's like playing a friend again. Speaking of, I guess there's a device that Links with bluetooth to play online. That'll be something to look forward to if I ever get tired of beating this machine. Only down side I guess - depends on your preference... is that it doesn't have a built-in battery. I see that there's something called a Volt that is a power pack in case for some reason I want to be a bit more mobile with it. For the most part having a wall plug is perfectly fine with me. A few days in and I'm so happy I chose this chess computer.

Ich habe den Schachcomputer jetzt ein paar Tage im Einsatz Zeit für ein erstes Fazit. Das Schachbrett hat für mein Empfinden eine perfekte Größe. Es ist ca. 40 cm groß, und damit weder zu klein, aber auch nicht so riesig wie manch anderes Brett. Das Brett sieht toll aus, die Kombination aus einem richtigen Holzbrett und der Elektronik ist sicher einmalig. Die Leuchten zur Anzeige der Züge sind sehr edel – ausgeschalten sieht man sie praktisch nicht, fühlen kann man sie nicht, und plötzlich blinken die Felder auf und zeigen einen Zug an oder auch Fehler in der Stellung. Man spielt einfach nur so wie auf einem ganz gewöhnlichen Schachbrett, und alles andere regelt der Computer im Verborgenen. Wahnsinn! Die Figuren dazu fühlen sich sehr angenehm an. Auch hier, echtes Holz, liebevoll verarbeitet, von der Elektronik sieht man nichts. Das Brett aber schon, das erkennt jede einzelne Figur. Wenn ich König und Dame beim Aufbau der Grundstellung vertausche, merkt das Brett den Fehler sofort und zeigt die betroffenen Felder an. Damit absolut Einsteigertauglich! Der Computer selbst sitzt in einem eigenen kleinen Gehäuse – auch hier mit Holz verblendet. Das passt sehr gut zum Brett und gibt dem Gerät einen schönen Retro-Touch. Das Display ist groß und lässt sich gut ablesen. Die Tasten an dem Computer sind noch „echte“ Tasten, so richtig mit Klick- Rückmeldung. An die Funktionsvielfalt taste ich mich noch ran. Was sehr viel Spaß macht, sind die Spielstufen, die sich selbst an meine eigene Spielstärke anpassen. Da habe ich gute Chancen zu gewinnen, ohne dass es langweilig wird. Hiervon gibt es 4 verschiedene, je nachdem, wie stark man selbst spielt. Die sind von der Benennung schön klar, so dass man leicht zurechtkommt . Bei den Spielstärke-Einstellungen selbst spielt das Gerät sehr stark, da muss ich noch üben. Es gibt weiterhin auch ein Menü für „Experten“, was mir aber noch zu umfangreich ist. Der Computer beinhaltet dann noch 2 verschiedene Schachprogramme. Interessant ist, dass diese beiden tatsächlich komplett unterschiedlich spielen. Aktuell nutze ich das King Programm mehr, da es die bereits beschriebenen Stufen mit selbstständiger Anpassung hat. Das Genius Programm scheint mir weniger gern zu verlieren, es spielt meinem Gefühl nach „verschlossener“. Man hat also viele Felder, auf denen man experimentieren kann. Ich denke, der Computer wird einen sehr hohen langfristigen Spielwert haben. Ich habe mittlerweile schon probiert, Übungsstellungen mit dem Gerät einzugeben. Da das Brett die Figuren erkennt, geht das sehr einfach. Im Prinzip muss ich nur die Figuren aufstellen, den Modus zur Stellungseingabe starten, und los geht es. Man kann sich dann vom Computer mit Hilfe der Tipp Funktion die Lösung Schritt für Schritt zeigen lassen. Toll! Mein Fazit: Ein sehr schön verarbeitetes, im Grundsatz leicht bedienbares Schachspiel. Der Funktionsumfang scheint enorm, viel mehr als ich aktuell brauche. Ganz tolles Spielgefühl mit den beleuchteten Feldern und den schönen Figuren. Ich habe gelesen, dass man mit dem Brett sogar über das Internet spielen kann. Das werde ich irgendwann sicher noch ausprobieren, jetzt übe ich aber erst mal mit dem Computer, damit ich in den nächsten Ferien Chancen gegen meinen Enkel habe.

This chesscomputer i bought from the company up2 in austria and i love it. Its like all wood board and has figure recognition and it works fine. I recommend it. The up2 in austria has a good price on it and they were quick to send it so i recommend them too.

Very impressive when unpacked no problems with the game

Very beautiful but expensive and no built in Bluetooth, no built in battery both need extra devices which cost more money and add more wires! As the brain of the board is connected by wire, the set-up rapidly resembles an electronic octopus!

Ist nicht billig aber toll zu spielen. Die Figurenerkennung ist eine super Sache. Nur der Kabelsalat ist nicht so toll. Nächste Bestellung ist ein dazugehöriges Akkupack und einen Sockel mit Lade. Dann ist zusammengeräumt. Kostet halt alles zusätzlich. Ein Set mit diesen Sachen wär ein Vorschlag. Aber wie gesagt, wir haben große Freude damit.
