Great stuff! But be prepared for a 3 hour process.
I've used RIT dye several times over the years. Mostly to rescue aging cotton jeans. My most recent project was a rescue operation for 4 pair of fading black jeans. The result was great, all 4 pair of jeans look like new. With that said, this is NOT an easy process. In addition to the dye, you'll need a bunch of other stuff to do it according to directions. And count on about 3 hours to do it right.1.) A plastic or metal tub to hold the dye solution.....preferably outdoors.2.) Enough hot (really hot) water to fill the container and cover the clothing. RIT advises 160 deg F. That means boiling large quantities of water.3.) A cup of table salt to add to the dye solution.4.) Some white vinegar to add to the solution.5.) A sturdy stick like a broomstick to stir the fabric in the dye bath periodically over 30 - 60 minutes.6.) Cold water for the rinse after the dye bath.7.) Some RIT dye fixative to make sure the dye stays put for a long time.8.) More hot water for the dye fixative bath.9.) Cold water for the rinse after the fixative bath.10.) A washer and dryer for the final step.I left my jeans in a metal tub outside for 60 minutes and stirred the fabric around periodically while I was doing lawn work. So you don't have to stand there for an hour while the stuff soaks. Rinsing takes about 3-4 fills and dumps of the container. Hence why an outdoor container and a garden hose comes in handy.I used hot water from the tap (120 deg F) and supplemented with 4 gallons of boiling water I heated in 2 big pasta pots on the stove.I used a scrap piece of 1 X 2 lumber as a stirring stick. The dye fixative is a worthwhile step. It will make all your hard work pay off with longer life of your restored clothing.Like I said at the outset, count on about 3 hours from start until your stuff comes out of the dryer. But there is something sort of satisfying about making something old look new again. And it was a lot cheaper than buying 4 pair of new jeans!

This stuff works!
This fixative performs as described in the directions/ instructions. Annually we have an adult tie dye party ( we call it our Sip & Dip) for up scaling faded summer dresses, linen shirts and anything else needing a hip make over! For a few years it has been trial and error how to prevent the indigo from bleeding and/ or fading, We tried the vinegar mix but we were not happy with our outcomes. Last year, I purchased one lonely bottle. We loved the results and now I only buy the 3 pkg fixative. Follow the instructions!

Green After Using All 3 Bottles
Followed instructions to the letter for a washing machine. First 2 bottles and 60 min made the brand new white linen a light green. 1 more bottle and another 60 min made it slightly more green. Not a hue of blue to it. Not the first time Rit dye hasn’t performed well despite following the instructions closely. Don’t know why I thought this time would be different.

It WORKS !!
I used the RED dye for some custom towels and a couple t-shirts, this colorfast formula didn't let ANYTHING bleed.I washed everything with my regular laundry the first wash just to see, and it WORKED. I was sure it wouldn't, but it did. So CONGRATS !! They have a winner with this one !

What I expected
I needed an additive to help brighten from a garment that "ran". I used the "soak in sink" method and worked very well, then ran through the washer.
