Q: Can the blades be removed for sharpening?

I coat the shredder with butcher block finish before using after Use I spray lightly with a pressure washer. The butcher block finish preserves the wood and blades. I have not found a suitable way to remove the blades

Q: What is the Slovenian name for this? I have my father’s hand made one but don’t remember the actual Slovenian word.

The actual word is "RIBEŽEN", which encompases this and many other styles of vegetable shredders.

Q: Can I seal the piece with a walnut finishing oil (don't have a flaxseed one)? Thanks,

Hello, Thanks for your question. Many nut and seed based oils can go rancid (spoil) overtime, so one should be very careful which one is applied to the wood. Flaxseed oil or mineral oil which can be obtained from a pharmacy inexpensively are great choices in this regard.
