Yes it works like a wax and would adhere to metal if you are doing a large piece like a planer or a chair, I would use gold spray paint then rub and buff to accent the edges as it take quite a bit for full coverage. I used a full tube on a paper machine mirror frae the was 4 inches wide by 18 inches high and 4 inches deep.
