Jackaroo renamed, but content the same!
I read this book (then Jackaroo) when it was new, then again about 10 years ago, and, for want of a printed book, tried again. As a result of age, the small print of the original book was taking away the enjoyment of the read. In looking for a larger print version, I discovered not only a new name and new look, but additional books in the (now) series. Progressing with the review, I have considered this tale a favorite since the first reading. The medieval time and setting caught my fancy immediately, and I have always considered Gwyn such a strong, likable, main character with definitely believable flaws and strengths. Other characters are on point as well in this slow-at-first, but enjoyable-to-the-end story. This book is definitely one to give to a young person for a great discussion time, however, the other books in the series definitely pale in comparison and have little to offer in entertainment value or development of an appreciation of good literature and moral value.

A classic of YA lit
This has always been a favorite of mine. It previously went by the name JACKAROO, but as far as I can tell the text hasn’t been changed from the one I remember reading in the 90s. The sequels are good, too, but this one’s the best.

A solid young adult novel
I read this as a teenager years ago and enjoyed it just as much rereading it now. An interesting world with characters you become attached to.

An old favorite that still trumps
I cannot express the beauty of this book. I read it many years ago when I was younger and again very recently. The beauty of Voigt's voice and the perfectly structured plot. If you want to read a perfect example of character motivations -- why Gwyn does what she does -- combined with powerful social criticism, this is the book for you. So many writers fail to give their characters real, personal and convincing reasons why they would do what they do. Voigt is a master and will forever be a writer of books of the highest standard.

Jackaroo (by another name)
This is one of my favorite books and I'm thrilled to finally have it in Kindle format. I have no idea why they renamed it, but the good news is they haven't tampered with the book itself. The main character is an inspiring role model--she's intelligent, thoughtful, determined, daring--basically, her heart is in the right place, even when it costs her.

One of my favorites
This has been one of my favorite books since I was a teenager. I have read it over and over for the past 30+ years. It used to be called jacaroo. I was delighted to find it on kindle.

Not impressed
I actually didn't care for this book much. It was very slow and did not have a lot of action. What should have taken a few pages would take a few chapters and there was a lot of unimportant things added in. I am a huge action and adventure sci-fi and fantasy fan but this one did not strike my fancy.

An interesting premise but a bit too old-fashioned
An interesting premise but a bit too old-fashioned for this reader. I would have liked the world in which this story takes place to be more developed and for the female lead to have had a different type of happy ending. At times the writing was so confused that I wasn't really sure what the author meant. This book was more expensive than it should have been oh, that said I really do think highly of the author based on what little I have read of her other series.
