Purchased this instead of the highly advertised item @ $69.00 and this one worked well enabling me to recover files from my non-working old-laptop hard-drive (HD.) Removed the old HD and plugged it in to device hooked up power and USB cords and there were my old files with my thousands of pictures.

Great Value of the $$! Lets me easily and quickly attach/remove any New older IDE and other Hard Drives or equipment I've owned and kept over the years no matter how antiquated! Was fairly self-explanatory how to connect everything up, but the provided instructions would be of help to anybody not in the know. The Leds, while a little redundant, are a nice add (but not necessary). You either know, or don't whether your drive or equipment works or not. Its pretty obvious. when you plug in a new drive, it appears in your HD list, or it doesn't.IF by chance it doesn't, ALWAYS be sure to double check on another PC! You could simply have a stubborn plug or a bent pin, bad cable, Bad HD etc. Anyhow, for $ this is a MUST HAVE to connect older (and new) equipment to your pc, easily without a lot of grief! 5 Stars!

This really saved me. My computer completely died and naturally I had not been backing it up. I was kind of freaking out. This device plugs right onto the drive and powers it. When you connect it to a USB port it shows up just like a USB flash (thumb) drive. You can read and write to it. I was able to save everything. If your drive isn't broken you can recover all your data. You don't need to download the optional software app. It works fine without it. I didn't want to download any foreign drive related software that could potentially steal data or have a virus.

The notch for the molex port on mine was cut with zero wiggle room but the header on the board was not flush, so to plug in I had to disassemble the unit down to the board (luckily the little rubber feet are coving the screws and it only took some gentle coercion to separate the plastic chassis, and that all went back together fine). Notch is perfect though, so it’s just plugged-in permanent now. It does work out of the box with windows 10 so far.If the feet were taller it would be better, it hangs on the pins when you plug in 3.5” IDE drives.A concern I had upon receiving the package was that the box was not sealed and could have been opened, emptied, closed back up and still arrived to me without contents, and I’d probably be SOL for a refund if that happened.

The connection sockets are very tacky and fragile - you’ll never be sure it’s connected properly. When it does connect, it is good for the price.
