Really good exercise book
I wanted a fairly "state of the art" exercise book so I could get increase my strength. This book has great exercises. Some uses just body weight, others use weights, or an exercise ball. I believe the more advanced exercises also use an ab roller and a balance ball (or bosu). There are beginner, intermediate and advanced workouts. The beginner has four different workouts, as does the intermediate and advanced. Each workout has about 15-30 exercises to do, depending on the level of the workout. Each exercise has three levels of difficult to them. So, there's basically lots of different levels and options. There are some really cool exercises for building core strength. Some of the exercises I've never seen before. Many of the exercises involve core strength for the spine, which is sorely needed by people like myself who spend hours in front of the computer keyboard or TV.I've been doing the beginner exercises for about 3 weeks now and I've noticed I'm getting fitter, stronger, and have better posture. It's like having your own personal trainer in your home.I will say, the beginner exercises are fairly challenging. I felt pretty sore initially. Some people may scoff at these exercises but I really feel like I've had my butt kicked, even at the beginner level. At first I had to take 2-3 days off between workouts to get over the soreness or the general butt kicked feeling. I will divulge I'm nearly 60 but I walk several miles a day so I figured I'm wasn't THAT out of shape (I was wrong).I would highly recommend this book for people to get the equivalent of a very experienced trainer with state of the art training for the short cost of a book. I bought the kindle version so I pull up the workouts on my screen. I can search to review how to do some of the exercises to review proper form.I've already bought the ab roller and the balance ball. I guess my next investment will be a BOSU balance trainer as recommended by the book. Not a cheap item to purchase but hope it will be well worth it in terms of my overall conditioning.

A good set of exercises using minimal equipment
This book has a very useful set of exercises that use minimal equipment. Quite well explained. I do think that warm-up and stretches are more useful and necessary than the author thinks they are, which makes me wonder how much feedback he got from elderly (>60) customers. But the user can easily adapt so that is not a big issue. There is a good emphasis on core strength and on balance.

I'm 65, just starting the program, it's great!
I used to find it hard to eat right, but then I read what's happening inside the body, and once I understood, it was easy to eat a whole food plant-based diet, which I've done since 2008. It's the same with this book; understanding the "why" behind the exercises and what's happening inside my body, makes me much more likely to do them, and to do them correctly so I don't injure myself. I really appreciate the point of view that this book promotes, about staying strong and fit for a lifetime and how to do that as we age. The analogies, stories, and explanations are fun to read and the pictures make the exercises easy to follow. Thank you Jeff, your enthusiasm comes through and it's inspiring! I just noticed that the info about the book on Amazon makes it sound like it's mainly for runners. I'm not a runner and this plan is perfect for me.

20 minutes, three times a week--not a burden
I didn't realize (at first) that this was a workout book for older adults, but immediately loved the focus of function, strength and balance. I've had this book two months and do the exercises three times a week. So glad that the workouts are easy enough to do anywhere without lots of equipment. I can get two sets done in about 20 minutes and have noticed improvements in ability, balance and tone already.
