Never Would Have Thought
Most Christians, at least in the modern day American church, have the theological depth of a sidewalk puddle after a short drizzle of rain. The idea that one could write almost 200 pages detailing and explaining the depth and wonders of the atoning work of Christ is, for most christians, unthinkable. Stephen Charnock masterfully displays the glories of Christ's work on the cross and in the hearts of the penitent sinner. If you want a deeper understanding of how your Savior saves you, this is a great read! Biblically based, and theologically sound, this is a must read for every christian - whether you are a babe needing some milk, or full grown man longing for the meat of God's word.

Highly recommended
This book is so powerful that at times I must pause and praise God, it hits me so meaningfully. Difficult reading for this non-seminary trained reader but so rich and thought provoking that I'm at times brought to tears, other times to deep gratitude, and other times, such joy in my salvation.

Charnock rocks
This is a classic. Reading it will demonstrate why. It is more than a restatement of 1 Cor 1:23. It really is quite mind blowing as Charnock shows Christ crucified as the thread uniting all of Scripture but especially Christ as the Passover. It is a little light on application but the application included faith lived out not merely professed.

Infinity great work
With the exception of Gardiner Spring ‘s “Attraction of the Cross “, this book has no equal. I have many a book, but, on purpose bought 3 hardback copies in case someone needed to understand the Cross. DanielThompson [email protected]

Gospel!
I thought this book was a good summary of the Gospel and what Christ did on the cross. Our broken relationship with God due to our sins are mentioned, and also the effects of Christ's work on the cross in devastating Satan's kingdom.

Excellent work!
This title deserves to be on the shelf of every Bible believing Christian. In this publication we find a brief outline of the atonement and what it means; it couldn't be a more important topic for modern evangelicals.

The once-for-all sacrifice
As Packer says, "the central focus in Christianity is the knowledge ... of Christ crucified." This is a great read by a great Christian for all Christians of today. It comprises 3 sections: 1) the knowledge of Christ crucified; 2) a discourse on Christ our Passover with 3 subsections (Christ is our Passover, Christ is a sacrifice, Christ was sacrificed for us); 3) the voluntariness of Christ's death. As the editor says, "whoso wants to climb Jacob's ladder, to see angels, to touch the stars, to become intoxicated with heavenly emotions, to stand near the Gate of Gethsemane and to have his heart wrung with feelings of adoration at the goodness of God - let him read on." Although first published in 1684 and this edition has been simplified by the explanation of many words and phrases not familiar to the average reader of today, you the reader will be richly rewarded by taking the time and trouble to sit down to learn at the feet of this Puritan about the glories of Christ crucified, our crucified Saviour. Persevere with your reading. Take it slowly and meditate. Well worth buying. A treasure. A classic.
