Q: Is this safe for toy dog breeds?

I used on my schnauzer who was severely matted and could not remove any matting without causing the dog much discomfort.

Q: I am left handed and I would like to know if the blades can be transferred to the other side of the tool.

Yes, there is a screw you take out and can switch the blade to go the other way.

Q: could it clip the fur instead of using electric clippers

I wouldn't say it clips like an electric clipper so I would say no. It's very good at combing through knots in the fur.

Q: how do you use this item?

Hi, at first I bought this to help me remove mats from my very long haired cat, but I now use it as a grooming tool also. It’s amazing how much fur can be safely removed along with the smaller mats and tangles. Similar to the Furminator but easier to handle. I really like this tool. Hope this helps. As to use I gently go under the knot and pull upwards Softly.
