Beowulf - Return To The Shieldlands

Actually enjoyed this when it was televised, but hated the constant commercial interruptions, so was happy when the series was released on DVD. I also liked most of the actors and thought they did a good job with the characterizations. There are more than a few actors I recognized from other series, especially the guy that played nasty Walder Frey in GOT, and loved Joanne Whalley in The Borgias. The special effects creatures were a tad cheesy however, but I don't tend to get bogged down in semantics unless they're really, really bad. I know special effects make for a very expensive production, so they are what the producers decide to spend I suppose. Edited to add that originally I did not see a closed caption option, but amend that to there is closed caption available.

got this movie because my son was watching it in his senior English class. He got sick, so we did not want him to fall way behind. Its a great movie.

This series was filmed in a remote location of England with beautiful scenery and staging. Excellent acting.

I loved this show, I thought it was a wonderful mix of fantasy, romance, adventure, very enjoyable.

Though the seller did a great job with price, packaging, and delivery. The film was awful. It featured a terrible story, California location, and third-rate bit actors. After hours of wasted time I quit this and donated it to Goodwill. WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY ON THIS PIECE OF CRAP!

Missed the end of the series. Glad to find the DVDs, and sorry to see the show was canceled.

Found this TV series by accident, and LOVED it!!! I only wish they hadn't canceled it, it REALLY looked to be a great series.

The first couple of episodes are okay but then it just gets silly. This series has nothing to do with the legendary Beowulfof the old epic poem except to use some of the names. A waste of time and a waste of money.

Fairly good fantasy show biased on a poem, the opening theme is resembles a game of thrones . . Not a bad seriesJohn hurt the leader of a village in England has died, outcast Beowulf returns to pay respects in the meantime the widow. Wants to be crowned thane (type of king) much to the opposition. Of some of the allies of the dead john hurt. In the mix we have shape shifters and all sortsOf weird creatures its had a good startHopefully it will continue

Camera work, special effects, supporting actors all splendid. This is an ancient saga and has been told in episodes as a kind of fantasy upon rhe original saga Mostly impressive and engaging. So why just 3 stars? Well thats because the central role, that of Beowulf has been given to an actor who is utterly underwhelming. He is dull beyond belief. He has had the charisma bypass and looks more like a door to door salesman than a superhero. He has no 'presence' whatsoever and this leaves a central hole in the whole series. Its worth a look even with caveat but what a mistake. It could have made a star but didnt. Sad reallu

wonderful series thoroughly enjoyed every minute I was a little sceptic with some reviews saying it rubbish but im glad I ignored them and brought Beowulf : return to the shieldlands ... everyone to their own I feel, strange ending though it was left hanging so maybe there will be another series after all

I am sorry but this effort for a series has to be the worst that I have ever seen. It provides lots of laughs (10 men and a woman running around sacking a town screaming was one of the funniest scenes I have ever watched. Where was this meant to be? Beowulf being a Norse story I assumed it would be based on a Scandivnavian country but it was full of Africans and Indians!!!!! What was that rubbish all about? Sorry but this was so bad.It ruined what could have been a good story as the Beowulf saga provides so much opportunity. Instead this was just used as a platform to promote liberal ideas and with some of the worst acting I have ever seen.
