I have a 90 pound bernedoodle living in Dallas. He absolutely loves this mat and it keeps him cool in the hot Dallas summers. I leave it in his kennel to keep cool over night

We have a VERY hairy dog who gets really hot in the warm weather even with the a/c running. This cooling mat helps him be more comfortable when he's napping. It seems pretty durable - our dog likes to dig his bed but so far the gel mat has held up to the abuse, although we need spare covers because he constantly rips the thin cotton cover it comes with. Still, you wouldn't want a thicker cover or the cooling effect would be lost. The cover is machine washable. All in all, this is a great product for making our dog's day a little easier. Tip: After about a half hour the cooling effect is lost, so when your dog gets up from his nap it helps to put the cooling mat on a ventilated surface like the top of a wire dog crate in order to get it "recharged" quickly.

So... I live in Florida and I have a Great Pyrenees. YES, I can hear you from this side of the key board: What were you thinking bringing a snowy mountain dog with a dual fur coat to the tropics? Just so you know, I didn't. She is a rescue. That said.... a cooling mat is something most of my dogs have needed here. I am typically a Rottweiler girl and they too need a cooling mat in FL. So a Pyr is a very paranoid of all noises that are not a norm for them. They have damn near bionic hearing and that caused issues with many options I tried previously. ***** PROs ***** + My dog will actually get on it so there's that + It is lighter weight and more easily folded and moved than water filled versions + It actually does stay cool for about 15 to 20 minutes at a use ( I tried it myself, hey for those of us with hot flashes, this is a great option, in fact I might buy another for myself + I like the size as others were narrower and this one allows for her to move around to another section if it starts to not be cool. + Gel version is MUCH better than the water filled options that leak eventually ( and never when you are home in my experience ). + Quality mat but you do need to put a cover as dog nails will eventually wear on the coating if you leave it uncovered. At least that is my belief from using other gel mats. ***** CONs ***** - a little spendy - non-standard size makes it hard to get covers other than the stiff material from the mat maker and they don't have other options. - A cover should come with it rather than selling it separately. We have to buy two so you have one to wash and one clean.

It’s great, I could not fit a regular size pillowcase over this cooling mat, and this fits nicely. The opening of it is on the bottom and it stays closed.

I got the smaller size, plenty of space for my 17lb poodle/terrier mix Dottie to spread out in her signature "sploot"(not pictured) This is a must-have for us because we recently moved to Hawaii with no AC and my poor girl is a black fluffy dog. She sleeps on this randomly throughout the day, but especially as soon as we get back from a walk so I know she finds it refreshing and helpful to cool down. I will say, I only used the cover for a day because I felt like it might be cooler without. It has gotten a bit dirty, but I don't really mind. The biggest stain was my fault, I left a ice cube on it that melted away, but in the mat's defense I also haven't tried to clean it. She also scratches it sometimes before laying down (as if she was digging a hole) and there are some light scratch marks but no damage at all and we've had it for almost 6 months. Would definitely recommend!!
