The ad says it's ok with 12v but only lists amps at ac. what is the amp rating at dc? i need to depend on these up to 7a dc

It can not work at 7a dc when 12v. It is about 2a in 12vdc

Can I use my own 14g wire with these? How?

Of course, you can. Just leave short pigtails on the switch to solder to. Use shrink tubing to finish off your work. If you're not familiar shrink tubing, it is used to insolate soldered wires form touching each other or from anyone from being shocked. Home Depot or Lowe's carries this product in the electrical department. Cut the tubing to the desired length, cover the soldered area then apply heat. The tubing will shrink to fit. Wire nuts can also be used as an alternate method. Good luck and stay safe!!

Could these be installed in a wall sconce (uses standard light bulb) that is meant to be hardwired?

The wiring is 16 gage, meaning, the use must be only for low wattage light bulbs. This switch is perfect for a lamp where the switch is set within. You will have to check the building codes in your area. For safety concerns, most codes may not allow anything but a UL approved light switches. The reason is the chance of fire within the wall.
