I purchased this for a front loading washing machine - the fabric softener dispenser has stopped working but the detergent section is still going strong. This product is made for the American style top loaders but I thought I'd give it a try and see what happens. It's never going to be as good as the built in dispenser so as long as your expectations are low, you won't be disappointed. There are some reviews mentioning blue staining but I haven't found this to be the case on whites, colours, trainers or any of my laundry. Laundry does not feel as soft as it would usually, because the ball must pop open, releasing the softener before the rinse cycle. However, I do notice a difference between using this and having no softener at all. So it does make a bit if difference, just not a huge amount. I do feel like I'm wasting softener though so have changed to a detergent that contains some and I use a little less in the ball. As I'm not ready to replace the washing machine, this is a fairly inexpensive temporary solution. Don't expect a lot and you won't be disappointed. But if you're looking for fluffy towels, don't buy this.

The dispenser drawer on my front loading washing machine was getting a bit difficult to open, so I thought I'd give this Downy ball a try. I've used it with Ecover fabric conditioner and it works! Delivery was pretty quick too, considering these come from the USA.

Gosh this is a brill invention! My 18 month old normal front loading washing machine stopped taking the softener and this seemed the easiest option to address my need for softener in my wash after cleaning didn’t solve my problem.Despite my scepticism it works great! My washing is soft and smells nice again.

Bought for daughter at university who uses industrial washing machine without fabric softener drawer. I did a lot of research. This is fantastic and works really well. So pleased with purchase. Delivery from USA but came quite quickly. Very happy with purchase

It wasn't made obvious that this is for top loading washers only-only after receiving the item I could see it on the label but this is very small in the picture for the item online so easily missed; it should be made obvious under the product details. I now wish to return the item and Amazonia says this isn't eligible for return, very disappointed.
