It would be funny, if it were not so truely heartbreaking.
It would be a lot funnier, if we did not see that the path of humanity has been led so far off course by this stupid religion. Christians are condemning the Muslim ideology, but the Judaeo Christian belief system is every bit as misogynistic and hypocritical. I laughed a lot, but then I fell in a heap crying over the fact that this stupid, disgusting book, they call the word of god, has set humanity on a course of hatred and fear. This book, this bible, is certainly the most damaging thing to influence life on earth. Steve Ebling only points out the absurdity and the contradictions, and the fact that the men who wrote this garbage where total barbarians. It is soul crushing to see that human beings today still find this trash, that being the bible, as some kind of a guide.

Shocking! Irreverent! Insulting! And HILARIOUS!
I'm not known for writing the most dazzling reviews but I did promise the author that I would write one (and my apologies to him that it's taken me so long.)I gave this book 5 stars because, in the first place, it was laugh-out-loud funny. I'd like to see the author do stand up comedy with this material. In the second place, I love that he has been able to provide such radically antithetical perspective to a traditionally taboo subject; Bible criticism. And it's a shame that this is such a taboo subject because, if it isn't exposed for what it is, the dogma continues unabated. I would hope that this book's message would spread like a fast acting cancer through the body of Judeo-Christian tradition...so BUY IT and SHARE IT!As with all biblical criticism, this book will be highly offensive and certainly shocking to many believers and the apologists are surely amassing their war-machine of disaccreditation and their version of "scholarly" criticism (rather than researching the facts.)It is said that people's beliefs are like addictions that, once established, are almost impossible to eliminate. This book is a good start on rehab. If you examine beliefs, you will find that in most cases, one's religious orientation is essentially that of their parents. But if people had no exposure to ANY religion until they were old enough to logically choose one for themselves, and then they were given the facts of ALL of them, they would not be able to choose one. Why do you think that is? Any religious person who is critical of anyone else's religious beliefs needs to remember that. There should be a book like this to dump a metaphorical bucket of ice water on all religions. What do you think Steve? Whose next?

A Good Start.
Effectively points out the silliness of the beginning of the Bible - those glaring bits of nonsense or inconsistencies you can see if you're paying attention - but it's a bit vulgar and crude, sort of like a shock jock using vulgar language. Perhaps he does this to offend those of an overly religious mind set, or just shock them and offend them as much as they often offend others by insisting their matters of faith are instead matters of fact. In any event, I'm not sure the vulgar language is necessary. Oh, one can overlook it, I suppose, but I'd rather see the ideas than the crude language.Alas, it only takes us up to the alleged enslavement of the Jewish people by the Egyptians (so, before Moses sets them free). Therefore, it's too short. There's perhaps more to come, but the title say the Bible - not just a tiny part of it, so it's a bit misleading.Anyway, this shines light on some aspects the faithful would rather gloss over or overlook altogether - if those faithful were those who believe the Bible is supposed to be literal truth. For those who are fine with it being figurative truth, I'm sure this would be less offensive - though it's clear the values of that earlier culture that wrote those passages are radically different than one of our more modern/current values. For an atheist like me, it's a reassuring read that one is not alone in their belief the Bible is, on the whole, pretty obviously silly if it's supposed to be the literal word of an almighty being. It's clearly not. And perhaps worse, if it were, what a horrible and cruel and unjust being GOD would have to be (at least to judge Him by the known and/or given facts - there may always be hidden reasons why the innocent need to be punished or killed, too, but like much of the Bible, you'd have to take that on a leap of faith as well, which defies common sense and reason. That's your choice, of course, but only, morally, the choice you can make for yourself - not for others - at least without violating the philosophy of the golden rule. After all, would you want others to force THEIR religious beliefs on you through rule of law or force of arms? Of course not. So don't force yours on others.

Genesis for Adults
I've been waiting for years for someone to write this book. As a former clergyman (educated in an accredited seminary), I promise you that Ebling hits the bull's eye on the myths of Genesis, demonstrating how these X rated stories were tamed down to a G rating by the writers to make them palatable to little children in religious schools, places they were never intended to be told.Ebling returns the Bible to its adult status, demonstrating just how stupid some of the stories are, revealing a psychotic Old Testament God concocted from several ancient dieties with the gall that to suggest man was made in the image of God instead of the other way around. Most educated clergyman know that what Ebling writes is true, but they can't tell their congregations for fear of losing their jobs.If you want to laugh and learn what the Bible actually says, and just how wrong the modern right wing religious nuts are, buy this book and read it.

Great book but don’t buy this version
First off, I loved it. The conversational style of the author lends itself well to the subject matter, it’s hilarious in parts, mostly bonkers and actually gives a very faithful representation of the source material. The reason I say not to buy it is as soon as you get to the end of the book you’ll want to buy the next book to see what happens next, as indeed did I, and when you do you’ll discover that the next book, The Book of Moses, contains this book in its entirety. So unless you actually want 2 copies of Genesis, I would just buy the slightly more expensive but better value and much longer Best Goddam Book of Moses. Can’t wait till the author does The New Testament though, hopefully one day he’ll release a complement Old and New Testament in one volume.

It is the best version, honest
Absorbing and interesting interpretations of the bible fables explained in detail for what they are, stories for the gullible and easily led misogynistic sheep herders of bygone days who had heard of Moabites and Philstines and Samaritans but not the Greeks, well not yet anyway. Creationist beware, spoiler alert.

Very good but much too short.
Very good but much too short. I was just settling in looking forward to more hilarious fun when it ended. If it had continued to be 3 times longer it would have got 5 stars and I would have probably cracked a rib laughing.

Critical and Honest
There is a lot of talk about critical, unbiased approaches to the Bible which never amounts to real criticism in the ordinary sense of the word. Not with this author. He criticises when he sees disorder, dishonesty and despicable actions by highly revered heroes of the faiths and of the Judaeo-christian tradition and this includes the god-character. My only criticism is his language, a lot of swearing, and the americanism, which could severely impact on the audience and the book's influence, but I forgive this accepting that it is a device and part of his honest criticism to show the text no favour, by being deliberately irreverend. It also makes the narrative highly humorous and entertaining. As a former minister if religion, theologian and critical scholar, I appreciated this no-nonsense approach and also the author's knowledge of Source Theory amongst others.

Hilarious
Im an atheist but like resding a variety of religious and religion related books. This is the first one that has ever made me laugh out loud throughout. I tried reading the old testament years ago but got bored wifh all the begats and stupidity of it so I have no idea of the accuracy of this book but the way its written us just brilliant and makes no excuses for thd ridiculousness of the stories. Never done a review from my kindle and must sat the keyboard is too small - nit sure what that has to do with the review byt sometimes you just have to go with the flow.
