Don’t waste your money first outing it blew inside out. Yes it has a cover

Q: How big is the umbrella when opened

When fully opened it covers an area of 40 inches diameter.

Q: Does it have slot type openings for the wind to blow through?

No it does not, however it is 12 ribbed so it works for light to moderate wind without turning inside out as compared to other brollies. Anything more than moderate it will turn inside out which I have found. Great brollie for light to heavy rain, but for moderate wind only.
