Hi is this certified nuummite. I know a lot of sellers out there trying to pass off black granite for example as nuummite

Hi Shawn,

Yes, this is Nuummite.  The variety we sell is Starburst Flash Nuummite.

1) For those who don't know what Nuummite is, it is a metamorphic rock containing two crystal minerals: Anthrophyllite & Gedrite, both varieties of the amphibole family. According to Rodgers et. al (1996) the age is believed to be around 2.68 Billion ( .22 GA). The older the rock, the higher percentage that an error occurs when trying to measure these things. The oldest rock formation is located in Quebec, at a recorded age at 4.4 Billion. Repeated deformation and recrystallization of minerals make getting a more precise date very difficult. Very Old? Yes, compared with the majority of the rocks on Earth.

There are three misconceptions with Nuummite. The first is that it is one mineral, which it isn't. The second is that it came from "outer space", which it also isn't. The third, that it only comes from Greenland. Nuummite is the trade name for this particular rock, because most people don't want to call it an Anthrophyllite-Gedrite Amphibolite.

The type locality for most Nuummite, which most come from, is the southwestern portion of Greenland called Nuuk. There are 8 mines last I checked within about 30 miles of Nuuk according to Mindat.

In the last few years there have also been discoveries in Canada, India & China.

2) Nuummite comes in two basic types with two basic flashes, the iridescent color in the crystalline structure.  There is often a Bronze or multi-color flash that I call Galaxy Flash with smaller flashes of color & a Gold flash which I call Starburst Flash.  I sell items made from the Starburst Gold Flash Nuummite, because I think that it is more aesthetic & beautiful.  It is just my personal choice & many of my dearly loved customers agree. It comes from the Northern India.
