Q: what is the cost of recalibration?

I recently sent mine in (about $8 to ship it) and it is exactly as you have stated. Mine was 6 years old so they didn't even try to calibrate it because it was over 5 years old. However, they did not charge me for the calibration and then provided me with a $40 coupon to buy another one. So I guess it can be thought of a way to just buy a new one at a discount?

Q: Is 200 blows before calibration accurate? Seems it could only be accurate for a few months if you have nightly cocktails?

I own a Trace. I also have access to a calibration machine that simulates human breath, blowing .050 level. A new unit will be accurate with +/- .003 according to a rep from BacTrack, who was very helpful, btw. By 85 tests it was .004 under. Now has 190 tests and reads .008 under, and still reading consistently. Here in NC if you blow more than .020, any cop can make up any story about you and you get convicted. Or G-d forbid they search your car and find that Flexoril you forgot about. Plain and simple, I won't drive over .020 which means mine says .012.I do plan to get the s80, it's one of the best. PS I can chech calibration on anything, Alcomates are off by .02 or .03 all the time. PS do not chug Georgia Moon and test, you will kill the sensor in no time.

Q: Do you have to wait 15 minutes before using?

After you take a drink of alcohol, the air in your mouth and esophagus is highly alcoholic. If you were to breathe into a breathalyzer right after drinking liquor, for example, your BAC estimate would be very high-and also very inaccurate. Waiting 20 minutes allows the air in your mouth and esophagus to return to a normal level.

Q: Can I pass it around to friends immediately between tests, or does it need to wait for a few minutes between tests?

Yes, you can pass it around immediately after testing yourself. Just remember no one should have consumed any alcohol within 15 minutes of testing themselves-that will ensure the highest level of accuracy. To make sharing clean and sanitary, change disposable mouthpieces between users.
