Q: Will this particular ring ALSO hold the smell of foods as the one that comes originally with the Instant Pot? I love my pot but that smell is terrible

They will ALL hold smells. It’s silicone. Don’t overthink it. Add 1.5 cups plain distilled white vinegar plus 1 cup of water in the Instant Pot. Set to Steam for 4 minutes, let it Natural Release for 8, then manual pressure release. The odor will be gone, and your stainless steel insert will look factory new. Buy several rings in different colors for various food types. I’ve never had a problem with odor from the ring impacting other foods.

Q: why do i need extra silicon sealing ring? Is it really every 2 years (more or less)? what if i do not want to replace this?

Two reasons:1: If you accidentally damage the original one it is not safe to use and you won't have to wait for a new one to arrive.2: Second, some foods/recipies can impregnate the ring with odors, so keep that seal for foods with strong flavors. The other can be then used for milder foods or yoghurt making where you would not want any leaching of other dishes odors.Ok, third bonus reason: Portable appliances change over the years and in 5 or so years it may not be easy to locate a replacement.
