Nearly did not buy this scale for the following reason . . .
Nearly did not buy this scale because its Amazon page erroneously claims the "scale accuracy" is 0.1kg and that's almost a full 1/4 pound! That would make this scale worthless for my purposes. Fortunately the SELLER clarified in one of the Q&A's that the accuracy is instead 10 grams; giving me something specific to work with that also sounded more realistic. But how does 10 gram accuracy translate into something useful to understand when using the scale in one of it's three weight-measuring modes: fractional kg's; fraction lb's; or lb-oz's with fractional oz's?Here's what I calculated and then observed: 1st by mathematical calculation and 2nd by using the scale to see if my calculations were accurate. In other words, does the SELLER's claim of 10 gram accuracy agree with what happens when I use the scale? First the calculations:10 grams = 10 g / 1000 g/kg = .01 kg10 grams = 10 g / 454 g/lb = .02 lb10 grams = 10 g / 454 g/lb x 16 oz/lb = .35 ozThese accuracies all sound reasonable and "accurate-enough" for my purposes (if verified by scale use) for accurately monitoring the weight of my beloved senior kitty named Bootsie (bless her sweet heart)! I plan on tracking her weight by weighing her in fractional lbs on this scale. When I put Bootsie on the scale it was pretty easy to get a reproducible weight of 7.14 lbs. The scale readings fluctuated between 7.14 lbs 7.16 lbs and 7.18 lbs and very rapidly at times. Seems it spent more time at 7.14 lbs and when I finally pressed the HOLD button it went to 7.14 and stayed there. Pretty good.Something interesting to note is that I never saw fractional lbs displayed other than "even" numbered 1/100th lb increments of XX.X0 XX.X2 XX.X4 XX.X6 and XX.X8. No "odd" numbers allows two digits to the right of the decimal point! The calculated accuracy of 0.02 lbs matches my experience using this scale. The scale-modes of measuring weight in kg and lb-oz allowed all numbers 0 - 9 in the digits to the right of the decimal point (not restricted to only even numbers like before). The fractional oz readings however alternated in increments of .03 oz and .04 oz. This is expected because I calculated the accuracy to be .035 oz and this is in the middle of .03 oz and .04 oz: .030 < .035 < .040. Placing Bootsie on the scale I saw the following fractional oz readings: 7 lb- followed by 1.9 oz 2.3 oz 2.6 oz 3.0 oz before settling down to a recordable reading.I placed a 1 pound package of unopened dry spaghetti on the scale and read 1.00 lb (see photo). I also placed several beauty bells on the scale and got readings close to their 3 lb, 5 lb, 8 lb and 10 lb weights; but I'm confident the beauty bells themselves are not true to their designated weights. So this test was not very helpful. Better to weigh food products to test your new scale. When I placed the 10 pound beauty bell on the center on the scale I recorded a different weight than placing it off-center. Not surprising especially using a focused weight like a beauty bell; just a reminder to center your baby or pet on the scale's weigh surface as best you can. Interesting to note that the recorded 10 lb weight was heavier when off-center than when centered.I did more tests around the 7 lb to 8 lb because of Bootsie's current weight. I have to say I like this scale. My favorite test was done using the 3 lb and 5 lb beauty bells. The 3 lb weight read 2.96 lb on the scale while the 5 lb weight read 5.04 lb. Placing both weights on the scale at the same time the scale read 8.00 lb. This was reassuring because 2.96 + 5.04 = 8.00 (see pictures).I’m happy with my purchase given this is an inexpensive scale. Do scales costing 5 times more work better? I don't know. Maybe or maybe not. Probably. But any scale with 10 gram accuracy is going to be “finicky” about the surface it’s setup on and when weighing objects like babies and pets that don’t stay completely still will always be a challenge. This is a very light weight scale. I would expect more expensive scales have metal components and weigh more than this scale. I’d also expect that a heavier scale weigh-deck would have a dampening effect and reduce the amount of sporadic readings when weighing a moving baby or pet. Just a guess. My biggest disappointment is not exactly the fault of this scale. I specifically picked a scale that had a large footprint about the same size as its weighing-deck. A popular alternative are similarly all plastic light weight inexpensive scales that have a large removable weigh-deck that is placed on top of a much smaller base footprint. I didn’t want this alternative for a couple of reasons I won't go into here. But after using my new scale I do see the advantage of having a smaller footprint. The large footprint of this scale can make it difficult to find a flat enough surface to use it on. Always check that all 4 feet of the scale are simultaneously in contact with your work surface. Do that and I think this scale will get the job done.

Great for weighing small animals!
Perfect, low profile scale to weigh animals under 44 lbs. I weigh my 2 dogs, who are both on weight loss programs. It's not high enough for them to get hurt when they decide to jump off. Very sturdy construction and easy to use and store.

Perfect for weighing my cats!
Perfect for weighing my cats! I have an 11 and 15 pound cat and kitchen scales were too small but adult human scales were not registering their weight. This was perfect! And they fit on there well.

Seems like a perfectly good scale... after a VERY bad first experience
After my initial tests of this scale I spent months looking for a better one for less than $200, but never found it, so I smothered my misgivings and checked this scale once more before calling the vendor for warranty repair. Now it works just fine. Readings are stable and within 2% of each of the known-good scales I compare it to.I have no cause for complaint, so I need to amend my previous review: This is a pretty good scale at a pretty good price. I don't know what caused its dismal performance before I wrote my original review. Whatever it was, it's gone.In interest of completeness, I'm leaving my original review below.***** Start of original review... See the amendment above! *****I foolishly didn't try it until the return period was expired. When I did, the readings I got didn't make any sense. I discovered that it reads consistently low.I tested it against two kitchen scales of different brands. A large glass measuring cup weighed 1,380g on one, and 1,378g on the other. On this scale it weighed 1,150g -- 17% low.A big steamer pot weighed 2240g and 2237g on the kitchen scales, and 1,690g on this one -- 25% low.A box full of exhausted batteries weighed 5105g and 5095g on the kitchen scales, and 2780g on this one -- 45% low. It was heavy enough to weigh on a bathroom scale, so I gave that a try. It said 5171g, just 1.4% higher than the kitchen scales. But wait, there's more. When I weighed the batteries, this scale *initially* said 2780g, but then it went down several grams, so I waited for it to settle. It never did. It kept on going down, down, down, until the timer turned it off.The batteries in the scale were fresh and tested good, but I tried another pair to be sure. The last item initially read 3,480, and dropped to 3,250g before it turned off. I don't know whether different batteries made it give different results, but it was still 32-36% low. It's under warranty, so I could exchange it for another one, but I'd have no confidence in it, even if it initially gave stable, accurate readings. So: as a scale, it's useless. It's the wrong shape to use as a planter. Maybe I could use it as a lap table. Or I could just throw it out.***** End of original review... See the amendment above! *****

Not Accurate
Wish I could give this 0 stars - been trying to get in contact with the seller to no avail. Bought this for our newborn and the numbers are staggeringly low, inaccurate and inconsistent.

Donat purchase this for animals!
We purchased this item for weighting our cats, but I would not recommend it for that purpose. Unlike babaies they do not keep still therefore we continually receive error messages on the screen and when they finally do settle down wew have to turn it off again and lift them up and then they want off again.
