The Hamilton Mixtape

Absolutely love this cd. Good alternative to soundtrack when still want to listen to Hamilton

Love this mixtape, the artists selected are nearly perfect. I play it all the time and picked up an extra for a gift for die hard Hamilton fans and they liked it too.

I REALLY enjoy most of the songs featured on the Mixtape. Kelly Clarkson's cover of "Quiet Uptown" is heartbreakingly beautiful. "Immigrants" is AMAZING, I really enjoyed Residente's part in the song and reminds me of why I like his music so much. There are a lot of other really moving and powerful songs but one that I REALLY did not like was Jimmy Fallon's poor cover of "You'll Be Back". I thought it was really unnecessary for it to be sung the way he sang it considering how the rest of the Mixtape was done so well. That one song is always skipped because I don't need to listen to that nonsense. It makes me upset that Lin-Manuel Miranda and Questlove seriously thought that Jimmy Fallon's cover was as good as the rest of the songs on the Mixtape. That cover does not live up to the standards of the rest of the songs on the Mixtape. But other than that the Mixtape is marvelous.

This is phenomenal music based on Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton: An American Musical. Retelling and contemporary spin by pop, country, rap and hip hop artists, including “Wrote my way out in which Lin-Manuel includes a verse about being bullied, beat up as a child because he was a gifted student have to “draw blood with this pen, hit an artery” fight back with his music; plus songs Lin-Manuel had to cut from Hamilton “because I have to get you out before Les Mis lets out next door.”

One of the great stage musicals of recent years has had so many fans among the young and old (it is NOT, as too many who have not yet seen it assumed, just rap music, but a glorious blend of almost every genre of music drawn together to force us to take a fresh look at history we vaguely thought we knew) that it was inevitable that someone would put together a "cover" album of other popular artists doing their own interpretations of the much (and justly) lauded material. I hesitated before springing for the CD just as I used to think long and hard before buying the once more common jazz rendering of current Broadway shows when they were far more frequently done in part because, unlike a majority of the target market, I was really not familiar with a majority of the recording artists (my music purchases are almost exclusively Original Cast Albums for their musical and lyric variety and the depth of interpretations), but as the university students I teach started raving about the "Mix Tape" version I decided I'd better hear it, and I haven't been at all sorry. Nothing will replace the full recording of the original, but this is awfully good.

Let this first be said: this is NOT the Hamilton Soundtrack. This is an album of new songs INSPIRED by the Hamilton musical, a couple covers of songs from Hamilton, and some songs that didn't make the final cut from the musical. This is meant to be a companion at best, and should not be compared side-by-side with the original Broadway cast recording. That being said, I thought it was a refreshing change of pace as a Hamilton lover. It took themes from the musical and expanded on them ("Immigrants" and "My Shot") and changed them up a bit with contemporary artists' perspectives. Some of these tracks aren't for everyone, and indeed some of them seem to be specifically targeted towards people who aren't fans of the musical. Honestly, I like the tracks that aren't from the musical better. In my personal opinion, I prefer the original actress's voices to the cover artists, although I appreciated the change of tone and voice that the new singers provided. The instrumental changes on those songs were very interesting. Overall, I'd say get this album, but be forewarned with the understanding that this is NOT Hamilton word for word, and it should not be construed as such.

Fantastic! I love this so much, and if you're looking at this you probably already know how you feel about the music of Hamilton, and you've probably been waiting for this album for a while. It won't disappoint. I mostly wanted to write this review to help people who, like me, want the unedited version of the songs and also want a physical CD of the music they love. If you are a Ham-head you don't need to be sold. But for a 40+ mostly non-hip-hop fan buying this CD was a difficult choice. But I am very glad I did! Just the four cut Hamilton songs ("An Open Letter", "Valley Forge", "Congratulations", "Cabinet Battle 3") are worth the price of admission. Queen Latifah killing what Lin-Manuel calls the toughest rap in the show ("Satisfied") is now my favorite Hamilton moment. Best song with mostly new material is "Immigrants". An excellent and timely critique of US immigration policy in the age of Trump. Rap at its most powerful. Kelly Clarkson ("it's Quiet Uptown") is the low point. A mediocre artist added nothing to a profound song.

Wer das Musical "Hamilton" von Lin-Manuel Miranda schon kennt und liebt, wird dieser CD ganz und gar verfallen sein. z.T. neue Interpretationen von Stücken aus dem Musical, z.T. ganz neue Stücke. Große Vielfalt an Stilrichtungen und Stimmfarben. Einfach super. Lin-Manuel Miranda hat sich mal wieder selbst übertroffen.

Rise Up!!!! A must for any fans of the hit musical Hamilton. This homage to the musical features some great covers of Hamilton songs by rising and established musical acts. There are also some wonderful easter eggs interspersed in the play list in the form of unused songs that didn't make the final version of the musical to enjoy.

Me gustan mucho las versiones que se hacen con otros cantantes o con otra instrumentación de los musicales y este es uno de ellos. Me encanta¡¡
