Best cat door ever!
I needed to stop my neighbors vary from coming in my house chasing my cat. This is the best invention ever! I had a little issue programming her chip to it, but the company was very helpful when I contacted them. Now Ziva is safe. When the other cat chases get, she can run through the door and it locks right behind her and the other cat can't get in. I would fully recommend this door for any cat owner who's cat goes on and out. You can program it fairly easily and it works for up to 30 cats. It works perfect for mine!A year later...I still absolutely love this door. It has been such a blessing for Ziva. She can get in the house safe and it keeps the bully cat out. The door started to malfunction and the bully was in the house one day. I replaced the batteries twice and that didn't help. I called the company and they were wonderful. This door has a 3 year warranty, which I didn't know and they sent me a new door right away!I want to thank them so much for their integrity and service. I would fully recommend this company and this door to anyone looking for a cat door. It IS the best!! Mahalo!

This company is 3rd party based in UK
Closer Pets in US might not honor the warranty on this door. This is a Closer Pets door, but is sold by Amazon Global in the UK. The door broke after 8 months. The clear plastic flap cracked and would not align properly after that. At first Closer Pets would not replace the flap, but they did finally agree to, which I greatly appreciated. If you buy this Cat Mate door, check Amazon to make sure it is not the UK Global store selling it, but Closer Pets. The US store might not honor the warranty.12/19/23 - I got the replacement flap from Closer Pets and successfully installed it (not so easy), but now the microchip feature doesn't work. I did a factory reset and reprogrammed one of my cats. The door would not open for them. I followed the instructions in the user manual to program the cat door, but it didn't work. I have had so much aggravation with this door, I would not recommend it. It was nice for awhile, but not so nice for the past month trying to get it to work, and trying to get a replacement flap. See the picture. My cats broke the door. Vertical crack and the bottom, of the flap is broken too. Bummer

I was skeptical that the chip reader would work reliably.
I have had several RFID cat doors over the years including models from "Cat Mate". Most were underpowered and failed to open unless the conditions were just right - the tag was in the correct orientation and height on the collar, the cat wasn't moving too quickly ( e.g being chased by a raccoon ), and the cat pawed at the door flap in just the right way and at just the right time. I realize that getting a signal from an RFID tag the size of a quarter over a 4-5" distance with low-cost electronics is not easy, and so I was pretty skeptical that this new model would ever be able to pick up a signal from the even smaller RFID chip implanted by a veterinarian under the skin of the cat. Since this model also supports the external disk-type tags I figured I would always have a backup if it didn't work. Turns out, in my case it worked with the implanted tag beautifully -- and so far reliably. The speed of detection is very quick and is less confusing to the cat, and the door seems to be quite solid. The only criticism I have is the setup/programming could be improved a bit. The light/click feedback is a bit awkward when trying to tell if it's ready to programmed, is programming, or has accepted the tag. An additional LED or sound would have been a better way to indicate programming states. That last point is probably why some reviewers couldn't get it to work, or thought their unit was broken. With the lower price and improved features this is the best cat door we have owned.

Lifesaver in my house!
This is exactly what I was looking for! In my house I have one cat who inhales his food and seeks out any other food he can destroy. My other 2 cats are grazers and are in need of some weight gain. I have spent a lot of time finding ways to separate the cats... too much time actually! I feel bad having to either lock my food-seeker in the basement or lock the grazers away in another room. Enter the microchip cat door! I have long used basic cat doors in my house, but now I have replaced a basic door on one room with the microchip door! Now I can allow access to my 2 grazers and deny access to my inhaler. No more cats being locked away! So, I am very happy that this exists and is helping to solve a real problem in my house. The negatives:The "tube" the cats have to go through is rather large and made the grazers nervous to use, even though they are used to cat doors in general. It took them a while to figure it out. It seems a little more difficult for them to use than a basic cat door/flap. (Of course, fatty mcfat fat had no problems using it while I had it in "training mode").Speaking of which, I couldn't get "training mode" to work, so I just taped down the locking mechanism for a few days - worked the same and was probably better for them to get used to the sound of the lock mechanism. Another downside is that the lock makes a loud sound that scared the cats a bit. I think they are getting used to it now.The scanning/ lock unlatch seems inconsistent in how quickly it works. Sometimes the cat is just standing next to the door and it unlocks. Other times the cat has his head in the tube, pressing his head against the flap and it doesn't unlock right away. While learning to use the door, this was discouraging for them. When the door wouldn't open they would back off - and then the door would unlock when they backed away. It helped if I stood by the door and then held it open when it unlocked. It took some encouraging, but I think they are understanding it may take a few seconds? Because of my assistance with the door, sometimes one of my cats comes to me and does annoying things to get my attention - I think he wants me to open the door for him. We are working on it!Another con is that the door itself is really loud. This is only an issue for me because it is about 5 feet from our bedroom, so it is annoying at night. First the unlocking sound is loud, the cat beating his head into the door a few times is loud, and then the actual opening and closing of the door is loud - particularly because when the door closes it bangs into the lock. I'm sure if I closed my bedroom door it would help, but my cats don't allow me to close my bedroom door - they will claw at it until I let them in. If I get that annoyed at night I can just lock the cat in his room (you can adjust the lock to allow no entering or exiting). In any case, I am very happy this product exists. I wish it were a little bit quieter, didn't have such a long weird tube to enter, and scanned and opened more quickly. I will say that this microchip door was the least expensive of the ones out there (that I saw), so it's possible a better one exists. My previous basic cat doors were Cat Mate, so I thought it would be the easiest for the cats to work with.****UPDATE**** After using the door for about a month, everyone is fully adapted to using it. It's still loud, but my boys know how it works. Fatty McFat Fat still sits outside staring longingly at the food he isn't allowed access to. He never gives up! I was very happy I was able to use this door while we were on vacation. No one had to be locked into the room for days (which would have resulted in at least one anger poop on the floor if he was locked in), and no one had to go hungry. I am so happy! I hope that this product continues to work well.
