Q: Would this work with an iPad Air 4th gen?

Yes it will work with iPad Air. This works better than the Roland go pro it copied. USB type c is a perfect connection to units like this because it’s more sturdy and less prone to break.

Q: If using a microphone do i need to use the mic input on the joyo momix instead of the mic input on my dj controller? if so, why?

How you route your microphone signal is up to you. If you connect the mic to the dj controller first, then you can connect the dj controller to the Line In inputs on the Joyo. Otherwise you can connect the mic to the the mic input on the Joyo and then the Joyo monitor Line Out to your dj controller or to your speakers/headphones directly.
