Q: What's the difference between the elv+ dimmer and the regular caséta smart dimmer?

The ELV+ dimmer resolved buzzing issue of my recessed LED lighting. I tried 4 different types of bulbs with the regular dimmer and they all buzzed. With the ELV+ dimmer they don’t buzz at all.

Q: Is there any wireless dimmer that will work with a 600w mlv transformer? looks like this only supports up to 400w.

For your application, Lutron would suggest the PD-10NXD. This device is rated to control 1,000W Incandescent/Halogen and Magnetic Low Voltage. It could also control 250W of dimmable LED or CFL.

Q: I am considering either this dimmer or the pd-10nxd-wh, which is around $40 less expensive- are there any benefits to this product vs the pd-10nxd-wh?

The PD-5NE is a phase selectable dimmer which allows you to either dim in reverse phase for electronic low voltage transformers or LEDs, incandescent, or halogens looking for a ELV dimmer. Or you could change the phase to dim in forward phase for magnetic low voltage transformers, LEDs, incandescent, or halogens looking for a forward phase dimming signal. The PD-5NE also offers the favorite light level button in the middle of the control.

Q: why dose this switch cost so much money?

It contains a lot of electronics. It communicates will all other Caseta devices within range to maintain proper operation. It reports status to the Lutron router, It maintains a list of pico devices that control it etc, etc.
