Q: How long do they last in the fridge?

I live in an area where I am lucky enough to pick dates up at the local organic produce venders on the weekend. I've been told that they stay pretty fresh for 3 months and that you can freeze them for up to a year. Personally, I keep mine in the fridge in an airtight container, keeping a few out in a container on the counter so they are luscious and soft to eat, and have never had any problems even after 6 months. They do loose some of their plumpness after a few months, so they do loose their fresh texture. I have frozen some dates in the past. They were good after 9 months, but I mostly used them in cooking because I thought the texture changed...but that could have been my mind playing tricks. Keep them cool and they should be fine.
