Q: Can the lid lay flat when painting with watercolors?

No, the lid on this pochade box will not lay flat.

Q: Do these pochade boxes contain magnets?

Not the one I have- the panel is held in place by moveable thumb screws.

Q: Was anyone able to get an inexpensive tripod to use with this? Since he holecn the bottom is not centered, it tips!

I use a camera tripod that I bought years ago for my Olympus 35 mm camera and it works just fine. I see quite a few that are similar to mine for $15-$30. Good luck

Q: Does anyone wish they would've purchased the bigger Pochade Box with storage at the bottom for dry/wet panels up to 9"x12"? I'm undecided

I’m very pleased with the Scout and specifically chose it for its size. It’s not quite as bulky as the larger one, but will still hold up to a 9x12 size. It holds two panels of any size up to 9x12 in the easel/lid. A big selling point for me is that it can also carry a stretched canvas! None of my other numerous pochades will do that. Absolutely no regret in buying this
