Q: How do I make sure I get the top flaps like the one shown in the picture?

The flaps are part of the tent. Fold them down once the tent is set up. The wind can blow them up. If it begins to rain, the water running down the top generally pushes the flaps down. I have a six sided tent and the flaps do what they are supposed to do.

Q: What are the extra poles for shown in the "what you get" ?

One on either side of the door and one across the top of the door.

Q: How does this canopy compare to the Gazelle G6 (construction, features, durability)?

I only have the six sided gazebo. Its a bit awkward to set up but it finally gets there. The stakes are a joke at least for the areas we camp in.
