Sure, you can measure the temperature of any type of solid or liquid that is within the measuring range of the temperature probe.

Hi it auto powers on when you open it it auto powers off when it is closed. Very easy to use.

Q: What is the length of the entire thermometer when folded?

The length of one of those eyeglasses cases that zip up, which is what I keep it in fits perfectly.
