Did you ever need to crimp a spade-type wire connector and wanted it to look professional, and more importantly, something you could be proud of doing? The Twidec/Wire Crimping Pliers 2.8/4.8/6.3 mm Spade 26-16AMG Crimping Tool is just the gadget for us amateur electrical hobbyists. In fact, the crimping tool is so good that it wouldn't surprise me if it is used professionally as well. Easy to use, it works on 2.4, 4.8 and 6.3 mm Spade-type lugs on wire sizes from 26 to 16 AMG. A good deal for the price and delivered on time. It might be something you should consider for an aspiring electrical tech. Or purchase it for yourself like I did.

This tool crimps well. I've done 200 crimps with it already. It opens a bit wide and the grip is hard plastic, but for the price it's excellent. It's a tad challenging to crimp but it's really not a big deal. With proper technique you can crimp for hours.

This is advertised as able to crimp the connectors for RC servo wires. I was unable to get any of 5 connectors to work properly. They would either fall out of the crimper or shift slightly and the crimp would be lopsided, or they would crush it to the point that the locking tab was distorted. I can hand crimp and put a spot of solder on three or four of these in the time it takes me to load and crimp one with this tool. It is not designed for small connectors. This is posted from a modeler of many years that has made a lot of cables. It is being returned.

These worked well crimping new open barrel uninsulated terminals. Much better than trying to make do with the older style crimpers that are used for insulated spade connectors. I used them with for 6.3mm (1/4" ) spade terminals with the locking tab that go into plastic connector plugs. These will not do insulated terminals., and I didn't try them with closed barrel terminals. The card for packaging is generic, there are no instructions. So you want to practice first to get the hang of it, and be prepared to trash a few terminals. The mechanism has a ratchet, so once you start to compress the terminal it holds until you reach full stroke compression at which point it automatically releases. WARNING: If you are using this on wiring gauge that is too large (ie 12ga) you can't compress to the release point. There is a manual release lever but you need to get a screwdriver or something to toggle it, not big enough to get your finger under. Ask me how I know ... The technique I finally settled on takes advantage of the ratchet. Holding terminal spade in one hand, position tangs in the jaw with the open side of the barrel pointing straight up into the deeper side of the die. Squeeze until the longer tangs engage in the die. Now that the terminal is grasped in the crimpers, insert the wire to the correct depth and continue to squeeze until full crimp is achieved. This works a lot better than putting the wire and terminal together in the crimpers with them wide open. Too many things for just two hands.
