Yes, they fold to 2 5/8 inches by 4 1/8 inches; when open, they are about 4 1/4 inches by 4 1/8 inches. I recommend them--they are sharp and good for travel.

Q: Anyone know why someone should choose these over the same ones but in 10x25?

The answer that the 8X binos are easier to hold steady than the 10X model is spot on, However, there are several other reasons to go with the lower magnification if one does not have a good pair of 8X ones. Avery important consideration is field of view. The 8XS have an 8.2 degree FOV whereas the 10X FOV is 6.5 degrees, giving the 8X 25% larger linear dimension. What is rarely mentioned is the viewable area - 57% larger (square there linear ratio) using the 8X binos. When in close quarters or trying to follow flying birds (especially swallows & swifts) the extra area is particularly important. Another consideration is image brightness. Given the same objective lens size, the 8X binos will deliver 56% more light to the user's eyes. In well lit locations & using large objectives this isn't a huge issue. However, here we have 25 mm objectives. If one is using these on a sunny day but looking into a shaded area the price paid in lower brightness using the 10X glass will be a large one. There are legitimate uses for higher power binoculars, but almost everyone will benefit by choosing 8X or even lower for their first set. Add higher power if you use the binos in varied situations, but please don't start with them.

Q: What kind of strap does this come with? Is it the nikon embroidered one?

Deanna .. the strap that comes with the Nikon is pretty much a standard black webbing strap about 5/8 inch wide in the area that would go around your neck and has a Nikon label on one end. I would say a minimal but functional strap. The binoculars are really great, I did a lot of research and comparison before getting them and I am 100% satisfied. I am an older guy and now in a wheelchair and one of the considerations was a small but high quality pair that I could easily hold and focus with one hand and these are perfect.
