Loved it. I remember reading about the underground as ...
Loved it. I remember reading about the underground as a young girl and have watched many re-tellings of what may or may not have happened during that time. They have all been heart wrenching and enlightening. Nothing will ever truly give us that same experience that slaves who had the courage to leave a life that they knew in their hearts was not right and the sacrifice that they each made to reach that freedom. I am so grateful for writers and creators that have a vision to show us a little different viewpoint and do it with excellence. Each character in this story is totally enveloped in who they represent. It shows in ever word they say; expression they make and action they take. There are surprises around every corner. As soon as you think things will turn out a certain way, BAM something happens that shakes it up. The choreography and music is simply amazing, breathtaking and truly entertaining. The music and choreography ties everything together. Thank you John Legend! I never would have thought some of the songs appropriate for this type of story line, but I was wrong. Modern music behind a historical story? Who would have thought? Very well done. I am rooting for the Macon 7 and looking forward to their journey.

Well Done!
Well done! Initially when I started watching episode 1 I thought I would not be able to get through it as an African American because it would be too emotionally taxing. But I mustered through episode 1 and by the second episode I found the hidden treasure of this series. This is not just another movie or series about slavery, it truly captures every emotional side of it from everyone's perspective, slaves, slave masters, abolitionists, slave bounty hunters, mothers, wives and children, etc... And that is the beauty of it. To write and direct this series in a way that allows the audience to see and understand all aspects of slavery and how it effected each side of the equation is the beauty of this series. The surprise twists and turns were beautifully written. With that said, I won't do like some reviewers do and give you a total detailed recap of the season because I want you to watch it for yourself without any preconceived notions based on facts revealed to you in an Amazon review.; which is the way I saw it. I didn't read any reviews first. I just watched it. If you'd be so kind, follow up with me after you watch season 1 and let me know what you think. And in the end, I leave you with two words: Well Done!

An addictive adrenaline rush
This show is SO GOOD. I was looking forward to it, but I didn't expect it to be as amazing as it was. It's one adrenaline rush after another, very intense, and it keeps you on your toes. I adored all the slave characters and couldn't wait to see what happened next. It's a great show for binging because it is full of cliffhangers. It uses a lot of familiar action/adventure and heist tropes in a new way, and I personally loved the use of current music.I did feel the second half dragged a bit, but it was only noticeable because the first half was nearly perfect. And the last episode made up for it.It's so great to see a pre-Civil War narrative from the slaves' perspective. These characters are complex and real and like nothing you have seen before and must have been a joy to play for actors who so often only get to be the sidekicks. But please don't think it won't interest you if you're not black. One of the things this show does so well is prove that slaves are just like the rest of us. And I'm white, btw, fwiw.

If you Must watch only 1 show - This is It!!
I'm a huge television fan & I must say that this is the best series I've ever seen. For me, Underground tops them all. The subject matter alone is jarring, but the writing, the direction & the pace! My God, you truly relate to these characters and their desperate plight to obtain something most of us take for granted today - simple freedom. The pace of the show gives you an example of the life and death timing that was at stake. When you watch this show, you will truly realize how those who came before us fought like hell, bled and often died for the very freedom we enjoy today. The performances from all of the cast, especially Jurnee Smollett, Aldis Hodge, Christopher Meloni, Amirah Vann, Jessica De Gouw, Reed Diamond, Marc Blucas and so many others - will leave you speechless. If you are an American - you must watch Underground. For anyone else who loves Liberty & freedom regardless of your nationality - you too must watch! This is the only show ever that literally made me shout back at my television. I've never done that - ever:)
