Bathory! essential music for one's metal songlist. Quorthon was a genius and his progression from the 1984 first album, which was raw, without over-production, and full of loud treble guitar....to the later (Viking) albums, which were very well produced and instrumentally refined, not to forget, excellent vocals and ambient background sounds added. My favorite is 'Father to Son'. The guitar riff is amazing. This is probably Quorthon's best work. In fact....it is a masterpiece, in regards to Scandinavian popular metal and the ever stated 'black metal' genre. With Quorthon, it was purely about the music and not about a personal stance on religion, politics, or shock value. What more can I say about such a great songwriter, guitarist, legend?? May he rest in peace in Valhalla or elsewhere!! 🎼 🇦🇽

I'll let the other reviews explain the content and songs. Overall great album in my opinion. However, I specifically ordered it from Amazon because it was described as being orange vinyl which I thought would be unique for a Bathory album. I received regular black vinyl. So just a heads up and a warning that maybe you should contact the individual seller and ask if the album is marked as having orange vinyl if that is what you expect to receive.

Like the title says, this is THE viking metal album. If you have even the slightest interest in viking metal, Hammerheart is an absolute must have. Bathory began the creation of this distinct and wonderful breed of metal with Blood Fire Death in 1988. Two years later, they absolutely defined the genre with Hammerheart. This is the first full viking metal album ever released, and probably still the greatest. From epic songwriting to skilled musicianship to wonderful atmosphere to perhaps the most passionate vocals in the history of extreme metal, this album has it all. I've owned it for years, and the impact of Hammerheart has not lessened. If anything I am even more moved as time has passed. Now that I've had time to more fully explore the genre I've come to really appreciate how brilliant Bathory (Quorthon, RIP) was, and in the catalog of Bathory's work, Hammerheart stands as the crown jewel.

HAMMERHEART is BATHORY's masterpiece. The late Quorthon created the first all Viking Metal album with HAMMERHEART and the final track, "One Rode to Asa Bay" became BATHORY's only music video.

The first half of the album is incredible, but the second half is not so hot. Either way this is essential metal from 1990. The first side is one of the most essential music releases ever.It's sad how so few people know of this band in America, as they are one of the premier acts of all time. AC/DC class of essential. Hall of Fame caliber band, for sure.

My new favorite album

Only early Bathory record I needed on vinyl. Great epic riff laden tunes about Viking dare done with largely clean vocals. Probably my favourite Bathory album. The now reissue standard matt reproduction of the original artwork is superb as is the quality of the double vinyl discs. Also has a lyric insert.

I had to buy this as it's one of my most played albums of theirs , and my old copy is dead.. !In my opinion their best album .
