Old TV + Chromecast + Extractor + Soundbar = Happy ears
I bought two Vizio soundbars, both require HDMI ARC or eARC. Unfortunately, the bedroom TV is an old Sony Bravia which works well but doesn't have either, just regular old HDMI ports.Googled a bit and decided on this extractor because it came with an optical cable. Other extractors mostly only provided .5mm to RCA stereo audio cables which can lead to lesser quality of sound. I didn't want to go down the rabbit hole of researching optical cables.I use a Chromecast device and connection was easy:1. Connect the HDMI end of the Chromecast to the HDMI input port on the extractor; the Chromecast is plugged into the wall socket for power.2. Connect one end of the provided HDMI cable to the TV HDMI port and the other end to the HDMI output port on the extractor.3. Connect one end of the provided optical cable into the optical port on the soundbar and the other end to the optical port on the extractor.4. Connect the mini-USB type A end of the provided USB cable into the port on the extractor and the other end into the provided power adapter; plug the adapter into wall socket for power.I've only used this extractor for 3 weeks so not sure about its longevity, but so far my ears are happy. YMMV.

HDMI arc output from tv can’t be split.
HDMI arc on tv can’t be split. If you need two audio outputs from tv use optical output with optical splitter.

Saved me from having to buy a new soundbar
Got a new TV that didn't have a optical output. This was perfect allowed me to use the HDMI to connect to the optical input of my soundbar. No delays and no audio issues

Great for TV with no optical.
I have a TV with no optical out or bluetooth. I use a bluetooth transmitter so I can route audio to a bluetooth headset. I had to plug the transmitter into the headphone jack on the TV which means, you can't use TV speakers unless you unplug the transmitter from the headphone jack. I want to be able with use either without having to plug and unplug. This device allows me to use the optical connector with my Bluetooth transmitter. Now all I have to do is change the audio out from TV speakers to audio device to change the output with the TV remote.

Product generally works
This product allows me to use an older surround receiver having optical inputs with a new television having HDMI eARC output. It works properly when the selected video source is the cable box, streaming services, or over the air broadcast. I can now get the surround channels from the television into my receiver. I don't even have a HDMI input plugged into it - just the eARC output from the television. This is exactly what I wanted when I purchased this device. However, the device arrived with a non-functioning 5V power adapter, and I am having no luck getting the vendor to send me one. This has caused me to deduct two stars. I still may return the product over that one thing.

Finally, XBOX X HDMI audio extractor that works and does ARC
It was not easy to find an HDMI extractor for XBOX X. Took a few tries and this is bulls eye. Supports 4K. ARC has a dedicated switch and not a button like some devices. And it works! I like having that option, but not so much for ARC as a technology. There is an audio delay setting in the TV that may need to be tuned as TV guesses how to match audio and video streams. TV has an optical output, but intentionally only outputs 2.0 stream. ARC solves that problem, but suffers audio sync issues. Luckily, this device can intercept digital stream before it hits TV and problem solved. Only downside, TV will not turn off automatically with XBOX as it would if directly plugged in. Bonus points for 5V power supply and TOSLINK optical cable included. Bottom line, this fixes big flaw in XBOX X design - no audio output. No need to buy a new receiver to have 4K video.
