This can be smoothly trimmed with sharp shears so that it fits your table flush to the edges or to provide a drop. Can also be trimmed to fit an oval table but I would use a newspaper template to insure a smooth arch. It's a great product. I have purchased two because I sometimes havae both tables in need of padding and heat and moisture protection.

Q: does it contain phthalates?

This product has but a small amount of phthalates as do all vinyls which makes the vinyl soft, flexible, and sturdy. As long as you use this table pad underneath a non vinyl tablecloth such as cloth cotton etc. and trim it to the size needed it seems unlikely that there would be much of an issue. We also suggest using a trivet when putting down hot dishes on the table.

Q: Using it to protect from Children doing crafts on it. Does it slide around the table, if used alone with no table cloth?

The surface touching the table has a fairly thick padding. However, if your tabletop has a very smooth finish some movement is likely. Leaving the dimensions longer with at least 3-4 inches hanging on the sides will stop most of this movement. I would guess that having the sides long and clipping them tightly together on each of the corners would stop almost all movement.
