Folks, you need to use thread tape.
Installed these today with no issues at all. They are well made and easy to work with.I think it's important to mention that you need to use thread tape (or equivalent) on the pieces you connect to the valves. They are tapered fittings and therefore do not use o-rings to seal, they seal against the male threads, and those male threads need to have thread tape (teflon tape, pipe tape, etc) on them or you will not have a good seal. I think most of the negative reviews are from people who's biggest issue is user error.Mine came with the pressure relief valve. Have read some reviews where people say they didn't get that part. Mine was shipped by Handyman Direct. Thank you Handyman Direct!

Expensive, but do you want to risk a failure?
Surprising to me how much these cost, but the price seems to be about the same across manufacturers. Not a piece to save a few bucks on, as the cost of replacement is too high and failure even higher.Note that if you are using this with a pressure relief valve, you will need to get one with a short probe/stem-thing that goes inside the pipe. The ones for sale at my local hardware store all had probes which were too long, like the ones used with a water heater. I was using mine with a tankless heater.

Expensive! Get the Noritz instead - is identical!
While remodeling my basement I also changed most of my water pipes in the house. When my Navien CH-240 was installed, the plumber did not use a valve kit, so to remediate this I purchased this valve kit. I also purchased the Noritz IK-WV-200-1-TH-LF 3/4-Inch Lead-Free Threaded Tankless Isolation Valve Kit with 500,000 BTU Pressure Relief, because it looked similar at a better price point. Well well, guess what? They are one and the same!!! The Noritz only changed the handles (to have their own logo on them), other than that this is identical to the Watts. What am I saying, this is the Watts with different handles. BUT, what even nicer, it comes with the pressure relief valve as well (a Watts as well)! If purchasing the Watts kit, you need the relief valve, so the price would be much higher! So if I were you, I would just get the Noritz since it is one and the same, and you get the pressure relief valve included for a much lower price! As far as how it works, I installed the Noritz and it works great, with no leaks. Since they are identical I count as reviewing this one as well.EDIT: When I purchased these they were both sold and fulfilled by Amazon. Noritz was about 80 bucks and Watts a little over 100 bucks.

I am super grateful that I had the foresight to install them ...
These little valves have bee in my home 6 weeks and have already saved my butt! I am super grateful that I had the foresight to install them because when my shower diverter cracked in my 90 year old Victorian house and the water started flowing freely.. leaking on 2 floors and my basement, I just had my son run down and shut it off. WOW! That was super easy. And the wait for the plumber was not a big anxiety ridden deal because these saved the day!

Unions Missing O'rings
Well, well. Seems this valve kit put me through a good 3hrs of un-needed torture with trips to home depot and getting bigger wrenches to over tighten union joints that simply didn't have a 25 cent O'ring included with a $60 valve assembly.I mean really if Watts had just the common courtesy to put in the instructions that a O'ring will be needed for the union whether they supply it or you have to buy it. They could have even said your package may or may not include a needed O'ring that is mandatory for the unit to have a "non-leaking" seal upon installation.Watts seems to make it a challenge for you to be a customer.....not a good business model. This was written after the job was finally completed and after reading the few reviews that echoed this same theme.

Installed with tankless water heater......
I wanted to be able to easily maintain the new ECO 18 tankless water heater. After doing a little research these valves seemed to be one way to keep the ECO 18 clean and in good shape. My plumber installed them when he installed the tankless water heater. I haven't had to flush the system - I'll be back in 6 mos. to let you know if they work as planned and make my maintenance on the ECO 18 easier.

Why so expensive? I'll tell you.
Seemed like a bad idea to spend ~65 bucks for something I could get at a store for maybe 20 bucks.. well you think that until you get them. If I had a kevlar sock I could kill a bear with these. High quality. Very very robust. Hell you just spent 5 to 9 hundred on the tankless, buy these you'll wish you had.

Heavy duty fittings that offer options in emergency water situations
Heavy duty fittings that offer you options...one such scenario, a "main" waterline break in your home...you could input from a garden hose attached to an alternate source (neighbor), and/or output hot water through a garden hose. We added multiple shut-offs and added both a bladder and filter to our system (make sure you have a shut-off on both sides of filter to make change out easy and dry.
