Is there a max. amperage allowed per smm? i have 6 mini split acs at 25amp each that i want set for load shed when my generac operates.

The individual relay contacts are rated at 50 Amps, 240 VAC. The SMM is a SINGLE CIRCUIT 240 V control relay. It applies power to the output ONLY when the unit senses that the utility power is on. If power is removed from the SMM for any reason, the relay drops out and power is removed from the output until a pre-determined time delay is reached. It then switches power back to the output. If each of your AC units is on a separate circuit, you will need to control them with separate relays. This could be done by having your electrician wire the output of the "Main" SMM so that it controls 1 AC unit and 5 25 AMP 250 VAC relays with NO (normally open) contacts, each of which controls another of the remaining units. This could mean that ALL 6 units START at exactly the same time at the end of your power failure, that could cause problems with the capacity of the panel, depending upon the other loads that are being used when the start time of the units controlled by the SIMM is reached. Obviously you need to talk with your electrician, or installer, and determine the best way for the "shed" loads to resume normal operation. You might want to use multiple SMM/Relay combinations to control a smaller group of AC units.  This would allow the start load to be  staged. Each SMM has a "priority" which controls when it reapplies power to the output. Obviously, the first one will turn on first, then the second priority turns on next, etc. up to 8 levels. I have 3 on mine. One controls the electric heat by interrupting the THERMOSTAT low voltage lead--I used a small 3pole 240VAC relay to interrupt the 3 wires that control the heat relay in the unit. I wired the control wiring back to the SMM mounted next to my Main Power Panel, because it was low voltage and only about  10 feet away. The second controls my electric tankless water heater (I used a small relay to interrupt the flow sensor  wiring---a modification not authorized by the unit manufacturer but it works), finally the third unit controls my electric clothes dryer.

The SMM works by sensing the loss of power first, which "sheds" the load. It then monitors the frequency of the power applied and determines whether or not the utility power has resumed. If the frequency drops below a certain level (I think that is 58Hz), the SMM drops the load, or if the frequency varies over a short time, it drops the load. Once reliable 60HZ power is resumed it begins its time delay before applying the power back onto the load. The frequency drop can occur because of your generator's regulation AND because if you start a heavy load, while on the generator, the frequency will fluctuate with the increased load.

I am assuming that you are having an electrician install the Transfer Switch and the SMM Modules. Those extra relays will need to be individually wired to the panel and the controlled load. Be aware that the relays in the SMM Modules are being continuously held "ON" by applied AC power. They have a tendency to HUM. My advice is to not place them where a low-level 60HZ hum will become annoying. BUT there is nothing preventing you from locating them close to the controlled load.

One final thing, the SMM is a SURFACE MOUNT module and although not ugly, it is unsightly, so you will probably want to mount them where they will not normally be seen OR heard.

Do the smm work in conjuction with the transfer switch or the generator? if its the transfer switch, wil it work with a duel transfer switche setup?

Is it accurate to say that the standby generator model 7043 does not manage power without these smm units? it only turns on and off? very confusing.

Do i need seprate units for each high load? ie: hot water heater, central air ,etc.
