HTT-119, High Speed Steel, 1 1/2" Skew Chisel for Woodturning

I’ve been turning for about a year and a half, starting with carbide and then moving into HSS tools. This is the first skew I’ve tried, even though it’s really the classic woodturning tool. I chose Hurricane as I have several Hurricane gouges and scrapers in HSS and M42, and I’ve always found them to be an excellent value- good steel at a relatively low price. I have this a light touch up before trying it out, and I’ve found that it does indeed do a fine job of quickly peeling wood and leaving a fine finish. I had planned to reshape it into the curved shape favored by a lot of turners today, but I think I’ll leave it as is for the present.

It's a decent tool. Grind wasn't close to even out of the box. Holds it's edge well. Great heavy beast.

I like the heft and quality/ price trade off. If I was a fair better turner I’d want a higher quality tool but it’s enough to last several years. I would’ve like an option to select a radius instead of a straight grind but I took the time to grind my own radius which was a pain as a beginner so I took it as opportunity for more learning.

This is a hefty, well-made skew chisel. It required final honing before use but had an overall good edge. I find it easier to use than my narrower skew chisels.

Excellent tool steel and because of the mass of the tool it doesn't vibrate on the tool rest, makes very smooth cuts.I like this tool.

The blade wasn’t flat it was concave and required a fair amount of work to fix. Should have sent back
