Not Ideal for Normal Sized Cats & Not Made Well
It's not sturdy for normal sized cats. It should be for kittens. I put a heavy sized object on the backside to hold it down for my cat to use.The biggest problem is the tiny rope that holds the ball is a (possible) hazard. I put this tree out for my cat to use and within a few days the ball was gone. I found him chewing it, and I'm sure he thought it was like a toy (the small black rope.) This worries me for another cats, because it could be an accident if they ingested it.As another person commented, the rope at the top is also already coming apart, too.For comparison, I bought a cat tree at a name brand pet store approximately 5 years ago. This new one barely lasted a few weeks.I wanted to contact the company, but I was not able to find their details. Thus, I'm putting my concerns in this review. I truly wanted to like the product and have my cat enjoy it.

Bad quality.
Update: after few days used by my 8 week old cat it's coming apart. Not very good quality.

Awesome product
They love it. Quick assemble in less than 2 minutes. Very sturdy. I almost want a second one. Perfect tall height for my cats.

Our cat's favorite scratching post
Our cat usually has a lukewarm reaction to scratching posts, but he loves this one. He will scratch or attack it several times a day, or climb it and perch on top of it. It's a large post, and the rectangular base takes up a bit of space, but it has saved our new chair which had attracted his attention before the post arrived. We have three different types of scratching posts and this one is far and away his favorite. It's heavy but easy to assemble, and it appears to be quite sturdy. Guster gives it two paws up!Update: It's now about 4 months since we gave Guster his scratching post. He absolutely adores it. It is his "play" spot--when he leads us there, we know he wants to play! He will wear himself out kicking at the base of it and will eventually doze off beside it. We've tried a lot of different scratching posts but none of them ever appealed to him like this one. And yes, he is tearing the material off the bottom half of it, but that's just proof of his love! We plan to buy another one or two for other rooms of the house!

Good for many reasons
I am happier with this than I thought I would be.It was easy to put together - just be sure to read/follow directions to make it sturdy. I have 2 cats, 11.5 lbs and 10 lbs. They actually can sit on top of this without any trouble of it falling over. It is tall enough that they can reach up and put their head on/over the top. I am happy to report they both scratch it (though one cat seems to have claimed it and tries to chase the other away). Also there is a nice carpeted area at the base where a cat likes to lay down. The price wasn't horrible, especially considering that it is being used. This scratcher is not overly obvious in the room, almost don't see it when it's next to a highback accent chair. I bought this to give the cats something new to scratch so they wouldn't scratch a new piece of furniture. It's been over a week and it's worked so far - new recliner is safe from cat claws!I did apply catnip spray to the carpet of the scratcher to draw cats to it. The attached toys have even been played with a little. The shedding is not bad, actually getting more pieces of cat claws than of carpet. I will definitely buy this again after the cats scratch it too death.
