Q: Can you prep the cord so it is less likely to fray? Wax perhaps?

That's a good idea; mine has a few spots that are 'hairy' but nowhere close to frayed. I still think 'mechanical' spinners are better than pull cord. I've not found one that I like.

Q: I have only had this product for 9 months and now the cord does not retract and salad cannot be spun. How do I get a replacement under the 5 year warr

Mine just failed literally on the first pull of the cord. Cord would not retract. Piece of junk.
