Question 1

Is this bed easy to clean...meaning can it be washed and dried and still look nice? Hand washing is not an option.

I bought three of these beds in Sept 2019, and with multiple ancient pets have washed each of them at least once a month. It's now mid Nov 2020. I never bother with gentle cycle, just throw it in by itself in my front loader and wash on hot in a regular cycle, sometimes I put a tablespoonof bleach.  Though they no longer look "pristine", they're pretty darn close. My animal companions absolutely LOVE them.  Today after a scrubby bubble massage ( a bath- but I can't say that word in front of them), I took a freshly washed and dried one out of the dryer after drying on hot, checked it to make sure it wasn't TOO hot, and my old Skippy boy, a chihuahua, climbed riht in and snuggled into and sank into the middle almost hidden by the warm sides surrounding him.  Almost all of my pets are old and have age related infirmaties, and they- both cats and dogs- use the heckoutof these beddies.
I did notice that after about 10 or so washings/dryings that the tiny black tips of the rubber anti-slip nobs  ( about 1/8th of an inch big) on the bottom side of the bed started coming off. At first I thought they were some kind of round flat bug and spent days with a magnifying glass and doing research online to find  a similarly shaped insect,ha ha!!   And also the "fur" on the bottoms of the sides started mooshing together.  I took a rubber brush to it gently and loosened a lot of it up but some still looked smooshed.  It's only on the sides near the bottoms and doesn't affect the bed part.  And my animals don't care what it looks like as long as it is clean and warm and dry.   They just LOVE them!  And that makes me happy.

Question 2

Has anyone tried to wash/dry in the machine? I have a cat who sometimes pees and I'd like to have a bed I don't have to wash by hand when that happens

I have washed ours multiple times, almost monthly. Before my first wash I was so scared of ruining such a pricy bed and/or pilling. We wash in cold water, dry on low heat.This bed dries fast and doesn't require anything other than low heat if you're using a high efficiency washer and dryer. It is always 95% dry after 10-20 mins drying in low heat. It consistently comes out even fluffier than when we first got it and looks brand new again!

Question 3

What do they mean to shake it and put out for 1-2 days after receiving? Can’t it be used right out of the box?

It comes in a small package. They squish it in there real tight. When you take it out, it immediately expands, but I assume they are recommending to get the full 'fluff' you should keep it out for 1-2 days before use. Either way, it's definitely usable out of the box and has plenty of 'fluff' when you take it out.
