Q: How do you put this on?

You can either pull it up your leg until your knee is at the opening and then adjust the velcro straps until it's tight enough not to slip down your leg. Usually works better over a pant leg. You can also undo both velcro straps, affix it to your leg with your knee at the opening and then tighten the straps until you reach the right level of comfort for you.

Q: My leg is 21" for 6" above knee cap and it is in the edge between l and xl what size should i get?

We had same problem I brought the large but xl probably would have worked also
