Q: do the cords twist? or do they get knotted up/

They don't get knotted but the cord does twist just a bit. But nothing impairing the knitting. I absolutely love them. They a comfortable to use, light weight and very practical.

Q: How long are the needle tips? Would they be able to form 16" needles?

Thanks - I am seeing this - would you forward the link to where you are seeing the shawl pin? As far as I know it does not. There was a version a few years ago that was for xmas that did contain this, but is not longer available.
