Q: Can you use oil paints with this?

This palette is intended for Acrylic Paints. While you COULD theoretically use it for oil points it would have no further benefit than any other palette you could put a lid on. The wet sponge underneath the parchment paper keeps acrylic paint moist and ready to use for much longer than it normally would.

Q: What are the palette's demensions?

7 7/8 x 5 7/8 inches, approximately. ~ 1 inch deep.

Q: Can it travel sideways? Does it have to be flat ?

it does need to be kept flat. While it probably wouldnt leak your paints would run and mix together if kept on its side

Q: Does the palette paper need to be soaked prior to use? Current palette is a pain with needing to boil water.

The paper does not need to be soaked before using. There should be enough water in the palette to wet the paper, then you can begin using it shortly after placing it in the palette. You may need to add more water from time to time to keep it at right level. There are some detailed instructions in the package too.
